Questions for Paul Krebs

by ZiggyZoomba
On February 4, I'm going to have the opportunity to sit down with BGSU athletic director, Paul Krebs and ask him some questions. I'd like to use this thread to collect questions from the Ay-Ziggy-Zoomba.com membership to present to Mr. Krebs.

Please post your questions, concerns and praises here.

A word of caution: If this thread breaks down like so many others do, I'll just delete it and go with my own questions.

Thanks! Myself and Mr. Krebs look forward to getting some of your questions answered!

There was a feasability study done concerning the ice arena last year. When are the results of that study going to be published and what is the likely outcome of the study?

Canned Music during the games

Who is in charge of the music during games at the ice arena?? Last Saturday with a record crowd, and a lot of BG goals to count, no one could do a goal count after each BG score because the canned music came on right after the band played the fight song!!! Sheets have been passed out in the arena to remind people of how the goal count was done in the past, but people couldn't do it because of the canned music. If we want to get back to the traditions of the past, then we MUST get the canned music under control. The band can be taught what to do and when to do it. Also playing the "HEY" song after each goal at the end only leads to the whole crowd screaming "YOU SUCK" during it. as happened last Saturday. Getting the band on board to lead the crowd, in the right way, can make the ice arena become the most feared arena in the CCHA, as it was in the past!!

GO ICERS!!
SWEEP THE LAKERS!!

Re: the "Hey!" song, it's title is "Rock and Roll Part 2" by Gary Glitter. The song has been used in just about every sports venue in the U.S., but after the news came out several years ago that Mr. Glitter has a penchant for molesting children, some organizations, including, I believe, the Red Wings, stopped playing the song. I don't know if there are royalties paid to artists for songs played at BG events, but if there are, we should discontinue using R&RP2 for that reason. Personally, $ or not, I'd not use it for the moral reason. Has this been brought to Paul's attention?

Is there much cross-pollination among member schools of conferences - marketing, facilities, etc.? I see PK sometimes on the road, even at Ferris one night, and just wondering if he compares some of the things the other teams do - online ticketing, concessions, restrooms, stuff like that. Is there a get-together of ADs and athletic marketing types to discuss their efforts?

What was the overall hockey budget in 2004, in 2006, projected for 2007?
Same questions for hockey recruiting?

1. When will the AD break down and hire an organist...hockey is not hockey with out the organ.

2. Womens varsity Hockey any plans?

3. when will the MAC stand up to the BCS presidents and call the BCS what it is and fight for the equality in opurtunity only a playoff system can provide.

From what I understand, the organ is no longer there. They only brought in the organist when the pep band decided that they didn't want to play at every game or to form one at the beginning of the hockey season. Then came the canned music...

Due to Title 9 and budget problems, they would have to add another Men's sport of equal scholarships to start a women's hockey program. As it is, the budget is stretched thin from what I'm told.

Grant - First - thanks for the opportunity. Simple question -

We (the Tech Family) have really enjoyed some of the promos to attract fans to the games. It adds to our fun when we make the drive to BG.

Are you seeing an impact in attendance with the promotions?

I wonder how you are advertising the promos - I have only seen them on www.bgsufalcons.com. Where else are they being published?

BTW - I remember the organist. Very Cool - Very Retro.

We really need to be able to do the goal count!!!!!!

It is so frustrating when we score goals ( like we did against Michigan :D ) and then you can't do a goal count . Any help you could get with this task from Mr. Krebs would be greatly appreciated by this Falcon Fan.

About 5-6 years ago the AD did a survey of hockey fans about the music.
Choices were:

A. Band
B. Canned
C. Organ
D. Dead Air

The Organ finished fifth.

Canned Music during the games

Just a fantastic point FF. This needs to happen (getting rid of the canned music).

Question for Mr. Krebs- There used to be what seemed a pipeline of quality hockey players from places like Stratford, ON. Is it in the long term plans to rebuild those relationships, or does the coaching staff make all recruiting decisions?

Thanks-

That's pretty much up to the coaches. I think Brian Hills's father lived in that area. (Sorry for the high-jack )

Question: Will the football stadium ever be utilized for anything other than football? Being a large venue with a large field, why not hold an annual High School Marching Band competition or something similar?

It wasn't Brian's dad, it was Terry Flanagan's dad who was the connection up there. And you are right about the coaches...THEY are the ones who decide which recruits to go after. Sorry, Grant, had to answer that one!!!......Carry one with your good questions, people!!!! This is an awesome opportunity!!!!
