Another Verbal!!!
The PD had an article about another verbal from a current JR. to the BG women's basketball program.
Liana Jennings (5'8" PG), 18.8ppg and 5 assts.pg, has verballed to Curt Miller after an official visit on Monday. She plays on the same AAU team as Jen Uhl (6'1" Center) from Wadsworth, who verballed 2 weeks ago. Had good things to say about the campus, the team, and obviously, Curt Miller.
Has started 3yrs. at PG, Stow has a 64-9 record, playing in 2 district championship games and the regional finals in 05.

Cool. I can't help but wonder if we're stocked with plenty of guards though. Just an observation. If it were me , I'd go after one more center or an athletic power forward prospect.Class of 61 wrote:The PD had an article about another verbal from a current JR. to the BG women's basketball program.

Think about it for a second.....this kid is a JUNIOR and a true PG....now I don't know how good she is, but if Miller offered, he must be pretty impressed...and by the time she gets to school, Kate will be a Senior and McCall a Junior....this gives us the depth we need at PG for years to come. If Uhl (6'1") comes through also, she'll be replacing one of the current juniors, of which there are a LOT!.... True, I'd like to see us get a 6"4falconboy wrote:Cool. girl who can really play to get us the size we need, but the MAC tends to be somewhat guard oriented, even in the women's game. I also remember a brief talk with Paul Krebs at the Q; he alluded to the fact that there's not a great deal to be gained by going hard after people you know you've got minimal chances to get. Rather focus on talented players who fit your system and WILL be able to be recruited and PLAY for BG. Might sound defeatest to you as you indicated in other thread, but it's also realistic.

The way you wrote that, it makes it seem like girls that are taller than 6'1" don't want to come to BG, but girls beneath that height are flocking here like mad. I'm not sure why that would be true, how is it that tall girls and shorter girls view our program so much differently?Class of 61 wrote:Think about it for a second.....this kid is a JUNIOR and a true PG....now I don't know how good she is, but if Miller offered, he must be pretty impressed...and by the time she gets to school, Kate will be a Senior and McCall a Junior....this gives us the depth we need at PG for years to come. It's not that they view our program differently, it's that they don't exist. There is an extremely short supply of girls 6-3 and taller that are good basketball players. The few that are out there get snapped up quickly by the big-name schools. Once we start to embed ourselves in the minds of these young women as a top program, they'll start considering us as well.
Like others have said -- it's a very slow process. It took Uconn 15 years to build their program. We're in between years 3 and 4.

Re: Another Verbal!!!
Don't think it meant that at all ....as J4H indicated, they're not that many extremely tall re: 6'3" or more girls out there to begin with, much less with great D-1 athletic ability. My comments simply said that Paul indicated that, while it was not a total waste of time to recruit such girls heavily, if you spend too much time and then lose out to a "big name" school, you might have been able to get some talented athlete to fit your program, AND who can still play.... Think about Liz and Allie as perfect examples of this.bgsufalcon24 wrote:Class of 61 wrote:The way you wrote that, it makes it seem like girls that are taller than 6'1" don't want to come to BG, but girls beneath that height are flocking here like mad. In the next 2 years, we have 5 girls over 6 feet tall coming into the program, the tallest being 6-3. With the continued development of guards Jazz and Goldsberry, along with the Jennings verbal, the team looks to be loaded even beyond next year's supreme Senior class.
If Miller would feel like employing a pressing type defense, our depth will blow most MAC teams away.
If the three big girls next year can help out inside (Baker especially), we will be even tougher to beat than this year. That, my friends, is saying something.

Interesting.....that site mentions that the 6'3 Hannah Baker is a walk-on. Does anybody know about this? I've never heard of BG women's basketball having a walk-on before. Has this opened up more scholerships to other recurits for us? And if thats true I see no need to redshirt her really.lou wrote:another post player for the class of 2007 reported on mac fastbreak

While THAT site used the term "walk on", if you go to BGSUFalcons.com, you'll see that she was added to the list of recruits....and NO mention was made on OUR site of her being a walk on.... possible redshirt, yes, but NOT a walk on.falconboy wrote:Interesting.....that site mentions that the 6'3 Hannah Baker is a walk-on.
