RPI/Polls

Post by Jacobs4Heisman »

With last night's game, BG jumped to 30 in the RPI. Duke is 5, Indiana is 17, and Delaware is 13. NIU, BSU, and Ohio are all in the top 110 in RPI. That Delaware game will be huge, but thankfully it's at home. I think we'll roll.

As far as the polls go, what will the effect of last night be (dangerously assuming we beat UTA)? Rutgers, Texas, and Vandy only dropped a spot or 2 after getting housed by Duke. Will we gain votes? Lose some? Stay about the same? I really have no idea how the voters will react to this, if at all.

Seeing how we plummeted after losing to ND in OT, I'm not sure what to expect. Will we get "credit" for leading much of the first half and hanging for a good deal of the second with #4? Or will voters look at it as a loss is a loss for a mid-major and forget us altogether?

Fortunately, tonight gives a good chance to bounce back, hopefully shoot the way we have all year and make a statement, but we all know how thin the poll ice is around MAC schools.

After Duke blew out SMU and Pitt, and we beat a tough UTA team, I think we'll hold ground in the coaches poll at least. The AP poll might drop us out, but they're not very smart so that doesn't concern me much.

As far as RPI, we've moved up to 26th, Duke jumped to #2, Indiana jumped to 14, and Delware jumped all the way up to #7. Most coaches know that Delaware is a better team than Indiana and Temple, so a nice win there would go a very long way, in the polls and in March. We need a big crowd since the Students are on break - revenge time baby.
