I thought we had better things to do. I guess not...
I am dissapointed to be a BGSU fan today and it has nothing to do with our teams or administration.

As frustrated as we all are, lets not let all of the BS from the other events seep into this.

Looking at the bracket, I can't really think right off hand where Louisiana could fit in at a justifiable seed looking across the different regions. Actually, two teams from the same conference CANNOT meet in the Sweet 16. They are not allowed to meet until a Regional Final which the Elite 8 matchup. If you look at the Big East, they have 8 teams in the NCAA Women's Tournament this year and they have it situated where 2 teams are in each region, and in each region they have one team in the top of the bracket and and one team in the bottom of that region's bracket.HoustonFalcon wrote:Raider, I understand that the committee doesn't want two teams from the same conference playing each other until at least the round of 16, but that goes for multiple bid larger conferences. We are talking about MTSU and ULL. These are two teams from smaller conferences that shouldn't have to be in the same region at all. This is not a conference that got three or more teams in, this is a two bid league. And as far as OSU is concerned, I am not trying to say that they are a power, or that I am a big fan. BUT, looking at it from a coaches perspective, to go 28-3 and only get a 4 seed after what they have done ALL YEAR LONG is a stretch. I am not saying two seed, but if you are going to give Vanderbilt a two seed after not winning their regular season title, then where is the justice for a team that did that in a big conference. Hoskins or no Hoskins, it should be based on what you have done as a whole for the season. If you are going to look at early season wins and losses as part of the equation, then you should be looking at the whole season, and not the beginning or the end.
Another rule that applies is if a school makes the tournament that is selected as a host location, they school will get to play on their home court and the locations are pre-determined into specific regions so the seedings of those host teams have to reflect the location. Michigan State and Stanford both will get to play on their home court. Had Texas made the field, they would've likely hosted a higher seeded team as an 11 or 12 seed. It doesn't seem fair that that could happen, but it's the rules.
Another rule they go by is not allowing rematches from the regular season before the Sweet 16.
Then you have to look at each team's RPI and wins and losses and when it all comes down to it, the committee is restricted on where they can seed teams and where they can send them. To me, Louisiana is stuck in about the right place. Just as long as they are not in our side of the Dayton Regional.
Now for Ohio State, the committee also looks at the last 10 games of the season to help produce a correct seeding. The Big 10 is without question the worst of the six major conference this year. I believe thier RPI is 6th and possibly 7th as a league. Like it or not, if the league as a whole is down, it will bring it's members down. If OSU had won the league's tournament championship game, they might be a 2-seed but because they botched against Purdue in a fashion that could not have impressed many people, the committee probably felt that this team was not as good as they thought. I realize a great deal of their decision comes from what happened toward the end of the season, but that's mostly what the committee looks at moreso than the beginning when teams are healthy. The committee is weeding out those that cannot hack it from November to March seeding them lower than those that can cruise through the whole season pretty well instead of just the first month or so.

Raider, I enjoyed watching your coach and team on the selection show. When your coach said "We aren't afraid to play anybody" like he did? I like that. Just like the BG women aren't afraid of anyone.
Best of luck to the Blue Raiders as well! I'll be pulling for ya.

Rick Insell is truly one-of-a-kind. We are very blessed to have him as our coach. I heard a rumor just yesterday from a reliable source that Insell was offered the job at Florida and he turned it down. His loyalty to this area and his alma mater reminds me so much of Leon Barmore and Louisiana Tech. You couldn't break Barmore from leading La Tech to several Final Fours and a national title or two, and I believe we have the same kind of person in Rick Insell.
By the way, I had the opportunity at our last home game to speak face-to-face, live and in-person with an individual who has VERY close connections to Coach Insell. I asked him if Insell had any intentions of scheduling games with other so-called "mid-major" powers such as Louisiana Tech, Bowling Green, or George Washington in the near future.
He informed me that George Washington is beginning a series with us in the 2008-2009 season. La Tech and Bowling Green turned us down. I was really hoping to see La Tech and Bowling Green in the near future.

You've got a great one there....BG turned you down? Was this recently? I can't believe BG would not want to schedule MTSU. We played Duke, Delaware, Temple, Indiana, St Bonaventure, Robert Morris out of conference this year. I think all those teams are in the NCAA and NIT tourneys. I, too, would like to see MTSU and BG get together. I think taht would be a great game.RaiderInTheZone wrote:Falconfreak90 wrote:Raider, I enjoyed watching your coach and team on the selection show.
