Though I don't know, maybe BG has one, too. A team meeting to plan the ass-whooping trip to Milwaukee, perhaps?

I think that this was a good decision for everyone. I saw Coach G at the final four, and I was going to introduce myself, but then thought twice. This was Sunday, and she still had on her Duke stuff. I didn't want to introduce myself as a junior college coach in Houston, just because I'm sure she was tired of all the talk. I heard that the contract would almost double her Duke salary, and she has a better recruiting base and resources. I would look for one of her Duke recruits to try and follow her to UT. There is a Houston kid that has signed with Duke, but she has always really wanted to play for UT. She didn't want to play for Jody though. We'll see. I don't know who they are going to hire at Duke, and I'm not sure what they are looking for. I would think that they would be looking for an established coach, but at Duke they might be looking for a top assistant from a successful program. I don't know. I'm sure it will be a woman though.

I've read a wide range of speculation on what her salary was. It was not in the public record.
I don't know about doubled, but I'm sure she received a substantial raise, and she probably chose to leave for many reasons, not just the money. Texas is a great place for a coach in any sport.

HoustonFalcon.....did you get a chance to go through Hoop City while you were there? Hope so. It was quite an amazing set up. I probably saw you though without even knowing it. I was with a group of kids for a coaches clinic with the UNC-Asheville staff, the Miami(OH) staff, and 7 of the All Americans. I saw hundreds of coaches as I was leaving......the WBCA convention meeting was just letting out. You might have been one of those coaches.HoustonFalcon wrote:I think that this was a good decision for everyone. Sorry, I scrolled all the way down and didn't read the rest of the comments. UT is so ready to get back into the national picture that they were willing to pay whatever it took. I know that Sherri Coale got is getting around 600-700 at OU, and I'm sure that UT is going to pay Coach G more than that at UT. I don't know for sure, but I think that I'm right on this one. That's the feeling I get down here.

I'm sure UT ponied up big time to get her down there, I just have absolutely no clue what she was already making. Having been there so long, even with only incremental raises it probably wasn't a pittance.HoustonFalcon wrote:Sorry, I scrolled all the way down and didn't read the rest of the comments. I haven't heard exact numbers....but she was making less than Johnny Dawkins.Jacobs4Heisman wrote:I'm sure UT ponied up big time to get her down there, I just have absolutely no clue what she was already making. That's a lotta money for a fellas' coach, too. There can't be that many coaches making over a million.Jacobs4Heisman wrote:And reports are that she will make 1 to 1.3 mil at Texas. Houston was right -- it is indeed about double. That's a lot of money for a women's coach.BGSUVA wrote:she was making 530K.
I don't understand why Texas wanted to hire someone who cant win a championship though.
For example, Billy Gillespie is moving from $1.25M to $1.75M at Kentucky, which I'd have to imagine is in the 90th percentile of high paying jobs.
