Women's hoops news

Post by brewer »

Seldom used guard Marisa Smith has transferred to Duquense. She's from that area and possibly wasn't going to get too much more playing time here, particularly if Achter and Taylor are as good as advertised. Best of luck to her with the Dukes!

Combined with Nowakowski, that opens up 2 scholarships. I doubt there is any need nor big desire to fill them for next year. That should allow Miller et al. to bring in 4 new players for the 05-06 season. And apparently two of these are already filled verbally from 5'8" G Lindsay Goldsberry (Dayton Chaminade Julienne) and 6'0" F Morgan Groover (Elwood, IN).

Does it happen to be Sakima Smith? I looked at the roster and that was the only Smith I saw. She has an athletic physique yet she never played. I guess all the best at Duquense.

No, Sakima Smith is still here. She'll be a senior this year. Although I was wrong on my count of open scholarships. There will actually be 5 after next year as there are 3 seniors this coming season (S Smith, Lewis, and Kapferer).

Marisa Smith was a shooting guard and would have been a JR. She's the 3rd of the 4 in the '02-'03 recruiting class to leave the program. Molly Martin transferred to IPFW and Britt Anderson decided to exclusively play soccer. Only Jill Lause remains.

It looks like they just recently updated the rosters on the BG website, so Marisa is already off of it and the 2 freshman have been added.

If you still don't know who Marisa is, I found her player profile. The people who do the BG athletic site seem to hope the players come back because they leave the pages on the server.
