You don't know what the hell you're talking about. I went to almost every women's home game this season. I follow their progress every game they play. I'm into this team moreso than any other BGSU team save football. For you to come out and say that I don't care about the program because of some post I made about a player at the end of the bench who was TERRIBLE, that's just plain ignorant. If you're such a bigger fan than me, which if you are I'll assume you were there in Cleveland for the MAC tourney final, you'd know exactly what I'm talking about. Pontius was out for about 3 minutes early in the 2nd half. In that time, McGowan turned it over twice, threw up a near air-ball on her one shot attempt, and committed a foul or two. We were leading 31-26 at halftime and by the time Pontius got back in we were losing, I don't know by how much. It was the critical point in the game where Ball State took advantage, aside from the final minute where they got the back to back baskets to win it.Metz wrote:Obviously by the last part of your post, you don't care about the women's basketball program so why ask questions.bgsufalcon24 wrote:What I don't understand is why the university waited this long to announce that they were taking away McCoy's scholarship, if indeed this is over her DUI offense back in February. It just doesn't seem right that she be held in limbo for almost 3 months like this. If BGSU thought her transgression was severe enough to be worth a scholarship-strip, they should have done it immediately.
And if this is NOT over the DUI offense, then what could it be?
Oh yeah McGowan. She was so bad during the MAC tourney final, that her presence in the game might've cost us a trip to NCs. I never though Slagle's injury would have been so huge in the end. Good riddance.
The point is, McGowan simply wasn't good enough to play for BGSU, which is why she's leaving. End of discussion. That's not me being a hard-ass, or being a jerk, that's simply stating the facts. And those of you criticizing Miller for his handling of African-American players are barking up the wrong tree on this one. This isn't a talented player like Murdaugh packing up and leaving because of personal or cultural difficulties. This is simply a case of a player not cutting it at DI and deciding to split. Skin color is irrelevant.
And as concerns McCoy, I do have a problem with the way the university and the program handled it. If you're going to revoke her scholarship and not let her try to make amends for her mistakes, why even let her back on the team for the rest of the current season? By letting her back on the squad, the program and the university essentially said that they were going to stand by her. They were going to do so with a short leash and any other problems would probably mean dismissal, but it seemed at the time that they were going to let her finish her eligibility. So why change course now? Did something else happen between then and now to cause the switch in the university's decision process?
My guess is that the university and the women's basketball program were never in sync on McCoy. Curt wanted to keep her, but the University didn't, and pulled the rug out on her, forcing her to leave.
