Scheduling/Curt Miller requests home games....

Post by Falconboy »

Curt posted to twitter that he sent out a mass emailing to schools for home game requests for a large game guarantee. His responses are asking for more money. Are these bcs schools turning us down or are we getting turned down by other top notch mid-majors as well? I had an almost heated discussion with a ohio st fan buddy of mine about whether or not boise st. deserved a chance at the NC if they go undefeated and are the only one at that. He refused to give boise any credit and brought up they don't play anyone. I stated if things were fair in college fb boise would not have to beg , borrow and steal to get a good game at their stadium once in a while instead of having to go on the road constantly to play high level competition.

OSU friend tells me that big schools won't go to Boise because there's no logic in it when they can make more money at home. I asked if Boise's stadium was enlarged to 60 or 70k would some school the level or nearly the level of USC , Cal, OKlahoma, or some other top 10 bcs team come to the smurf turf to play Boise. He said maybe, cuz there would be the opportunity to sell a great amount of tickets. Now, the reason I bring this up is simply this. Are we still going to get rejected by larger conference schools to come here even when we play in the Stroh cuz of it's 5k max seating? That's rather sad if that would be the case. I realize collge fb and bb are different on some level but I was just wondering.

Maybe we need some new kind of team SOS rating system that rates you on who you play on the road and gives you major pts for going on the road to tough teams and winning. If SOS is so crucial in college basketball to getting seeding for potential post season tourney's why are so many bcs schools so frickin scared to come to AA and play us? Is it cuz the AP would drop them out of the polls in snap if they lost or what? Why are some big schools willing to go to some terrible mid-major schools arena but they won't go when they are really good or ranked? Isn't it better to just go on the road to really good teams and at least get credit for strong scheduling? Maybe odds are stacked against us no matter how you look at it cuz most bcs schools assume they can waltz into the NCAA's with weak non-conference schedule cuz they can make up for it in their own conference. It's just irritating to me that the big schools have things so grossly in their favor and can repeated have success on a national level year after year, when they can control who they wanna play when , where and why down to a tee. Yes, I know money is prolly involved somehow but still it irritates, and i'm sure it irritates Coach Miller and his staff.

Here is how respected the program is. NO ONE really wants to come play us on the road. They know that there is a chance they might lose, and they don't want to lose to a mid-major if they can help it. Curt is killing himself trying to get a name program to come play him at BG. But HBU is in it's second year of DI, and they can get Duke to come play them here in Houston. Why? Because those at Duke know that it is a 99% certainty they will come in and win convincingly. Part of it is exposure to the Houston area kids, but there is no real risk for them as far as the game goes. HBU is a small, private Baptist university that doesn't put in close to the amount of money it takes to be DI yet. They were national contender at the NAIA level for quite some time, but even their last year at that level they weren't where they should have been. I saw their schedule tonight and couldn't believe who Todd (their head coach) pulled in to schedule. They also have Oregon State coming in, but that is partly because they were already coming to play Houston I believe. Now, let's compare this to Curt's dilemma. He can't even get a bigger school to schedule a home and home with him. I got the same tweet about today about the first responses being more money. I would love to find out who actually asked him for more money. Todd at HBU knows a lot of coaches, but none respect him as much as they do Curt. It's not a lack of friends that prevents Curt in getting better competition. He has too much respect. I would suggest to him that maybe he needs to try and schedule a home and home with Houston. They did a home and home with Akron the past few seasons. I'm sure if Joe at UH keeps his job after this year, he might entertain the possibility of getting better competition into Houston. But Curt, I know you're reading this, you are going to have to wait until after this season to try that one. Keep it up Coach, and good luck this season. My point to the post now that I got off track. Major programs in the women's game really don't want to schedule away games against potential speedbumps. You either schedule BCS schools, so that if you do lose it doesn't hurt you so bad in the committee room at the end of the year, or you schedule teams that you know there is a 90% chance or more that you will win by double digits.

One team I would think that would do a home/away series is Duke.
Coach P at Duke really likes the midwest and has assembled a very tough road schedule this season, including going to Maine(her previous stent), trips in Cali etc. Check out their schedule.

She claims that she will play any team anywhere....and we remember UT's upset of Duke a few years back under Coach Goestenkors.

I think it's worth a try there Coach Miller---but you have already probably tried!

Well if Dukes coach was serious about that statement then I would've expected us to have had a home and home with them already with Miller begging for home games for last 3-4 years. My guess is maybe that Dukes coach's statement was just hyperbole.
