Re: Report Please!
Starters were: Nurse, Pontius, Clapper, Breske, and Hennegan.
Key players: Tamika and Maggie are going to be great to watch this year, especially as the season goes on and the chemistry rises. Lauren didn't play that much as she's still recovering from the flu. You could tell she wasn't fit, but she did fine. Breske had 10 pts in 22 mins. Freshman Chrissy Steffen played the most out of all the freshman and did very well. Looks like she will be the top recruit from this freshman class (ya I know it's early and against a DII school!). Pappenfuss looked good. She positioned herself well, and everyone was excited for her first points. Simone Eli only had 3 minutes. She seems skilled with the ball and fairly quick from what I saw... I couldn't help thinking if I would have taken a redshirt year if I were her. But at the same time... if Nurse or Pontius goes down during the year, Eli looked capable of stepping in. Obviously this is all based on a team they beat by 30 haha.. so yea... But the present and future is bright! Oh and Tamerlano also got on the score sheet.
Game: The first ten minutes were pretty scrappy, and I'm pretty sure we were losing by a couple points 9 or 10 minutes into the first half. Second half we found more rhythm and did better defensively. It was nice to see everyone get in too. The ladies will take a LITTLE while to gel, but the goal is to be playing your best ball at the end of the year, not the beginning.
Thoughts: The only thing I came away really thinking of what seemed off was Pontius's role. Maybe it just looked weird to me not seeing Tracy run the offense the entire game, therefore causing me to think she looked out of place. But once LP is back I think it will go together smoother... assuming the plan is to have Nurse, LP, and Pontius starting together. There's soo many options with this current squad, it's just gonna take a LITTLE bit of time to find what works best. It's gotta be great as a coach to have so much depth it almost becomes a problem. Good problem to have though.
Alright.. can't believe I wrote this much, considering I wasn't really into the game. Exhibitions are good for the team, kinda messy to watch though. Can't wait til next friday, and then hopefully going to OSU to beat the Suck..I mean.. buckeyes!
