Lady Falcons vs Findlay
Lady Falcons vs Findlay
I'm surprised to see that no one has offered their thoughts on what they saw at the Women's exhibition game this week. I like the potential of this team as we we move forward and look forward to seeing our younger players develop into their roles. I think Alexis Rogers has some nice skill and as soon as she gets comfortable playing in game situations again, will be a big help. Danielle Havel was a beast on the boards and I hope she can continue to do that. Logan Pastor is obviously the point guard of the future and once she becomes acclimated to the D1 game, will be a good one. Can anyone tell me who the last "lefty" was on a BGSU Women's Basketball Team? (just a good trivia question) I was pleasantly surprised with Jasmine Matthews as she showed some aggressiveness in attacking the basket AND scoring the ball. Hoop and the harm as we used to say it a few years back. Good Falcon coaching (the kind we have come to take for granted) will make Shanique Ogle a force to be reckoned with in the middle. She doesn't just get a rebound...she snatches it...and nobody will take it away from her. As for the rest of the team...I am anxious to see Kaila Hulls play, and hope her knee injury is not so serious that we have to wait a long time before we see her...Chrissy Steffan has to take a more active role in looking for her shot and we need more people to develop the skills necessary to create their shot on their own, so that when the shot clock is winding down someone has the confidence and ability to make a play. Hopefully that will come as the season goes on and by the time the MAC schedule rolls around BGSU will definitely be a force to be reckoned with. Again, these are just my thoughts. GO Falcons and Roll Along!

I wanted to start a topic but I've posted a lot lately, so I thought I'd let someone else start a discussion
I was also really impressed with Danielle Havel on the boards, and also the team effort. Led by Havel's effort, the team really "crashed" the boards more than I've seen in the last few years. Perhaps some was due to the large height advantage, but it was great to see that effort to get every rebound. Loved seeing Shanique rebounding - you're absolutely right, no one is going to take that ball away from her! In just a few minutes of play she showed a lot of passion and energy - a really good sign for the future of our post game.
Logan made some nifty passes, and while a lot of them didn't connect, I suspect she'll start nailing them in the future, once she gets used to her teammates and the system. Logan will be a great asset at the point, especially with her aggressiveness and size. She also brings the ability to get the ball out on a fast break - something BG doesn't do a whole lot, but perhaps we'll be seeing more, given the athleticism of this new group. Jillian Halfhill did a good job too. Curt compared her style to more "Tracy Pontius" - patient, not as aggressive, but a good ball handler who will punish you for any defensive mistake. She also is fast enough to play good defense.
I also really like Jasmine Matthews. As far as the recruits go, she was probably the least highly touted, but she really looked confident. She also plays great defense; she is much more active with her hands than many others and has good footwork and speed. She's fast enough to bring good help side defense too. I think she'll develop into a great all-around player. Rogers has serious skill, and more importantly, athleticism. She blew right by some defenders to drive to the basket - not so much speed, but raw power.
BG has a long way to go this season. A lot of times they looked uncertain, and execution was not great (20 turnovers x.x). But rest assured, there seems to be great talent rising through the ranks. I really think this young group will very exciting to watch! GO BG!

When you're a member of a forum that hosts a multi-page discussion about the stripe on a football helmet and the historic significance thereof...can you really start "too many" discussions?
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

I still hate that damn stupid pointed stripe. Thanks for bringing that up again.Flipper wrote:When you're a member of a forum that hosts a multi-page discussion about the stripe on a football helmet

Re: Lady Falcons vs Findlay
Please note the use of "Lady" before Falcons is redundant. The female is Falcon. The male is Tercel. So you say lady, lady or lady female.
Guess the guy's teams should be Tercels......but it's all in the family except when it comes to redhawks.
The women were "Lady Birds" back in day but that's another story altogether. "Normals"
GO!!!!! BG!!!!!! BG __ Roll Along!

Re: Lady Falcons vs Findlay
Not sure how good Findlay is supposed to be this year but we didn't play great but still beat em by nearly 30. There will be growing pains at times with this squad. Jess Slagle is a great leader though and the team is in good hands I think. Rogers didn't really show what she's capable of , but she hasn't played in nearly 2 years. Once the rust comes off she will be a stud for us. We are very guard heavy this year and we got some nice shooters in the group. Matthews is very quick and finishes nicely and has a good 3pt shot. Hoekstra has a nice long ball shot as well. She reminds me of Whitney Taylor only taller. Was stilll disappointed at the lack of a post game. Many entry passes were picked off. We gotta get our timing down which will come with time. We get a nice big time test with Dayton to open, ten a top #15 Big Ten team in Purdue after that.
