"classy" CMU women's coach?

Don't know how many of you saw it...but the Cleve. PD printed Guevera's (sp?) comments after the BG game, when she "loved the refs, because they let us play...we're a 'down and dirty' team, not a finesse team"..

But after Saturday's game, she basically said that James of EMU was "protected" by the refs and that the difference between the FT's of the 2 teams was unbelievable.

I know that comments have been made re: the "attitude" of some of CMU's players.... wonder where they got it from?

Oh yeah...the refs are the reason why CMU lost on Saturday after winning Friday's game.

61, I noted all of those comments. I like the way our coaches handle themselves. We played hard- and at times well- vs CMU. But they deserved to win in the end as they made the plays down the stretch to do it. Pains me to say it, but that is what happened. And opur coach said as much and spent some time getting our players =ready for the WNIT bid which was guaranteed for us when the buzzer went off and we lost.

Now CMU's coach just is the opposite. Her comments are borderline ridiculous after both games. After watching both semis and the final live, I can tell you that CMU does play with an edge. And we need to learn from that so we are somewhat more ready for that. Just IMO. But they can cross the line at times. But again- give them credit. They beat us.

But the best comment had to be that Tavelyn James was "protected". Tavelyn James could have shot six or eight more foul shots in the game. And it sure seemed familiar. Lauren Prochaska- in the two previous title games- likewise could have shot six or eight more. Didn't happen.

CMU coach needs to just coach her team. That would be a good idea. Don't comment on refs or foul shots or how the game was called. And figure out where the playing time will come from for her five returning starters plus three top reserves and three supposed "star" incoming freshmen. Fine team but wonder if the team chemistry will hold for the year. Noticed number 24's four total minutes/all in first half in the title game might not have sat too well with her as the final buzzer went off.

I liked James' attitude and effort in the title game and EMU's never say die attitude too. Glad they won.

Tremendous year for our fabulous (and young) BG women to this point. Now off to the WNIT and ready for our next assignment.

This is exactly why I wanted EMU to whoop CMU after our loss. CMU was not whooped like I'd hoped, but they were beat, and I guess that was enough.

I know there are plenty of people on the forum who think falcons ought not to be talking to rockets, but there were plenty of rocket fans waiting for their game on Friday who also couldn't believe what CMU gets away with. With all the power CMU has, and with the way they shoot, they don't NEED to be "down and dirty".

I appreciate the way Curt, Jennifer, Brandi, Kevin, and our team approach the game. They should feel very good about their wins.

If I recall correctly, #24 (Digiulio) was the "freshman of the year" LAST year....and now she's not even starting. (did start 2nd half IIRC)....don't think that women are quite as "moody" as guys when losing PT, but wouldn't be surprised if that did happen.

If you looked up "moody" in the dictionary, you would probably get a picture of Diguilio. I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see her transfer.

Eh, don't care for anything involving CMU...they have a largely classless fan base and it seems their teams follow suit. I was very happy EMU won.

I know their coach was very gracious last year when my daughter was introduced to her by Coach Cullop. She sat on the bench with my daughter and talked to her for quite awhile. She certainly didn't have to do that and had she just said "Hi" I would have had a lot of respect for her but she went out of her way to be nice and learn something about my daughter so she gets some slack from me.

Isn't it interesting the way that the lens through which we see the world colors our view and makes us judge others, even when we have no direct experience with them?

Having spent a significant time around Sue G., I have always found her to be a class individual.

Just those comments. That's what I said and that's what I meant. Read or listen to them. Leave the frustration or glee for the way a game was called in the locker room.

Does not mean she is not a nice person or not a good coach.

If Curt Miller said these same things, I would describe them the same way. You will not find that coach making those comments. That is what I am saying.
