One scholarship available?

Post by Class of 61 »

I've raised this question on the men's site also....it would appear that, with TWO players graduating (Slagle and Geise), and only ONE player signed thus far (young lady from Michigan), that Curt and Co. should have ONE scholarship available..

My question to the group... if this is indeed true, what should we be looking for in this final recruit? My 1st instinct would be to say SIZE, but with at least decent athleticism.... OTOH, with No shooting guards on the roster, assuming that Chrissy isn't viewed that way, should this be a priority? Of course, we've never had a chance to see one of the freshmen who may BE that player (Hulls)... she DID beat the guys in the 3pt. shooting competition during midnite madness at start of season....but we don't really know how she'll do in actual competition either, after sitting out a year.

The "regular" signing period begins on Apr. 15, according to the sites I've visited, so It'll be interesting to see what BOTH or our teams do. =D>

It's also entirely possible that they'll save this scholarship for next year's class, unless they find someone that totally wows them at this late date. I realize it's possible for a great player to fall through the cracks & still be available in the spring (Ali Mann, for example), so you never know.

Also, this is all assuming no one with eligibility remaining decides to leave the program.

61, your question inspired me to do some research. Like you I believe the team needs to get bigger and more physical. We've been basically a three point shooting, slashing team for some time. Works well a lot but can struggle with bigger, aggressive teams. Anyway, I checked out ESPN's HoopGurlz listing for undeclared post players in our primary recruiting areas of Ohio, Michigan, and Indidana. Here is the list with school, height and comments if available.

Ohio: 6'2 Kenyada Brown - Cinci Withrow (very physical player); 6'2" Lakyn Francis - Buckeye Valley.

Michigan: 6'4" Nadia Cannon -Detroit Martin Luther King, 6'3" Ashley Franklin -Detroit Community; 6'2" Simone Gillum - Flushing (big body but lacks skill set); 6' Brooklynne Lane - Cadillac (raw); 6'3" Emily Veenstra- no school listed but based on the Dutch name I assume she is from West Michigan likely GR or Kzoo. (real size, will rebound, can finish with left hand).

Indiana: 6'2" Karah Peppler - Ft. Wayne Wayne; 6'2" A'lia Reeves - Indy Pike (Long player who can run the floor and excels at rebounding).

Not saying we are recruiting any of these ladies but just letting you know what type of player that the database indicates is still available.
