Our New Women's b-ball coach?

Post by Class of 61 »

After listening to GC's interview on bgsufalcons.com, I'm beginning to believe he's leaning to look outside our current program for the next HC. He made many references to many other coaches expressing interest, which is logical, considering our history, especially over past 9yrs or so. And a "national" search makes sense if there's someone out there of quality.
He was asked about his "priority" for a new coach i.e. previous HC experience, "big time" asst. looking for a HC job etc. He mentioned that some D-2 coaches, among others, have expressed interest...
But the thing that triggered my opinion the most, was that he did NOT mention anything about OUR current staff, especially Jen. I know this is pure speculation on my part, but it led me to believe he might be looking more outside the current staff than many of us would've believed...Of course, we also don't know what Curt's been doing re: HIS new staff at IU either.
With the signing day rapidly approaching, and a scholarship to give, I'd like to see a decision on this so that we could stabilize what has been our best program over the years. :-k

We went thet DII (or was it DIII) route before Curt. How did that work out for Dee?

She might not be the best candidate, but Jen Roos is the best choice for the job in my opinion.

I agree. Jen is more than ready to take over.

Reads like most of posters here want Jennifer Roos as our new Women's Basketball Head Coach. Two friends & I have already sent e-mails to Greg Christopher and President Dr. Mary Ellen Mazey stating that there is a ground swell of opinions that Jennifer should be named HC. If fans, alumni and financial boosters feel the same, sent you own message to the powers that be. Dipping to DII or some other places assistant coach just pushes the program backward IMO.
Based on what I've watched over the course of 11 years work, Jennifer has more than proven her ability. Without some of her expertise, we wouldn't be in this situation 'cause Curt would still be here. It was all 4 working together but Curt received the praise & raise.
It you have feelings about this situation contact Greg Christopher. Lots of people saved hockey now try again for our coach.
THANKS!!!!

What about the recent $250,000 donation that was received. Surely she may have some input. Wonder if that check has been cashed already.

Would be curious to know how the players feel about who should/shouldn't be hired. Should they have a chance to voice their opinion? or is it their responsibility to just take care of business regardless of who is or isn't hired? This has the potential to tear this team apart. Somewhere I read where we have already lost a top recruit for the 2013-14 season. How about Kaila Hulls whose brother plays at IU? Does she follow Curt and become a Hoosier?

Re: the 2013-14 "recruit", we still have a verbal from her as far as I know...but...she WAS going to visit IU...logical, if Curt feels she can play at that level. He recruited her sister too, who is now a STARTER at Notre Dame.
As far as Kaila goes, I'm doubting she'd transfer, and sit out another year...she missed this season due to injury and being away from competition for TWO years wouldn't be in her best interest....
But this is my opinion only, not fact.

I think they have talked to the team as to the coaching position. Chrissy said in an interview on Fox 36 Saturday during the banquet that they would do anything to have her (Jennifer) on the court with them next season. Does that mean they have veto power? Probably not, but the team has always had a lot of input as to how the team is run. But it is true that a coaching change can cause problems with team chemistry. Which always has been a strength of ours. There will be some change regardless of who they hire. I'm sure Jennifer has some ideas of her own that she would like to implement. She won't be a total Curt clone.

Not really....Curt Miller was hired in May, and to use a more recent example, Tricia Cullop was hired late in April.

Can we please let the process finish?!?!?

I am sure the AD is looking at all options on the table. If Jen is meant to be the next head coach, she will be. If not, someone else will take over. Not that I think this would happen in a MILLION years with women's basketball but it came to mind when the calls to just move her up and not do a proper search came out. Don't forget what happened after that scum ball who is now head coach down the road left here in the middle of the night. The players went to the AD at the time and said they wanted Greg Brandon as head coach. A proper search was not done and look how that turned out. Again, I do not think that would ever happen in this situation, but one never knows. Looking at all possible options is a necessity and I am glad to see the time being taken. Thanks to the efforts of the current (past) staff this job is very attractive now and I am sure all of the options are more than qualified to bring BGSU continued success and dominance.

Take a breath, and give it time. I look forward to giving the new head coach my full support, whomever it may be.
