Sahar Nusseibeh from Holy Cross. She's saying the right things, but the release mentioned her status as Holy Cross's recruiter for the state of Ohio. I checked Holy Cross's roster to see who she signed and nobody from Ohio is listed.
I can't say I'm not disappointed that someone like Kate Achter or another individual with ties to the program was not considered, particularly when there were two openings.

Re: New assistant
How do we know that someone with ties to the program like Kate Achter even applied? I know that Kate is very happy at St Bonaventure. I think it is time that we realize that Coach Roos is the head of the program. She was going to hire who she considered the best fit for the program. Bringing in someone just because they have ties to the program isn't always the best. Let's welcome the two new coaches with open arms and support them as they help us win more MAC championships.mscarn wrote:http://www.bgsufalcons.com/news/2013/6/ ... 34422.aspx

Good points and you're right, we don't know. But if she didn't apply, why not? Was she actively recruited by Coach Roos to return? Is Olean, New York such an oasis that it overwhelmed any desire on her part to return to her alma mater and win a championship? Unless they added a few things it wasn't the last time I was there. It's not just her, either. Megan Thorburn was a MAC coach at one time as well. We certainly know that the former player formula doesn't automatically work, but it's just surprising with so many out there that nothing materalized.falconwomenbball wrote: How do we know that someone with ties to the program like Kate Achter even applied? I support the new coaches and wish them the best, but the resumes and backgrounds were underwhelming to say the least for a program of our stature. I hope they prove me wrong.

Re: New assistant
Remember when Jennifer, Brandi and Kevin were hired by Curt. Jennifer came from Davidson, not a major power in the Southern Conference. Brandi had a couple of year years coaching in West Virginia and was a player personnel administrator in the WNBA. Kevin came from Buffalo and from the men's program at OU. None of them had high mid major experience but certainly were good to great coaches. They fit together as a staff. If the new coaches are great teachers, game administrators and recruiters then they will be good. You can't always look at resumes to see how good of a coach one is. As to Kate, she does enjoy St Bonaventure. She has learned a lot from Jim Crowley her boss. She may have told Coach Roos she wasn't interested. That would be the end of the discussion. Megan Thorburn did coach at OU. Again did she apply? Maybe not the fit Coach Roos was looking for. Liz H. is happy as Curt's DBO at IU. I can't think of too many more of our ex-players who are coaching.

Re: New assistant
As was mentioned above, hiring a former player didn't work out very well last year. I'm not saying Jennifer or anyone else could have predicted that; I thought it was a great hire at the time, and I'm guessing nearly everyone else did as well. Maybe Jennifer or the administration decided not to hire a former player, or perhaps Kate wasn't interested. It seems that Jesse Fleming is clearly the top assistant on Jennifer's staff, so maybe Kate didn't want to come to BG to be the second assistant at best. I'm going to trust that Jennifer has hired people who will work well together as a staff, and I'm looking forward to the 2013-2014 season.
Re: New assistant
Curt's staff was, let's admit, an almost once-in-a-generation confluence of fortune for us and it's unfair to judge anyone based off of that. That being said, they all had better resumes on paper coming in than the recent additions.
Jen was the top assistant at Davidson while our recent hires were lower on the totem poll at their smaller schools. Brandi was a full-time assistant at a Big East school and Kevin had MAC conference experience (albiet at Buffalo) on both the men's and women's side.
Signing a few big-time recruits would help assuage such concerns so hopefully that will occur in the near future.
