BGSU vs Ohio Valley
Congratulations to the ladies on getting their fourth win of the season against OVU! In spite of the large margin of victory, the Falcons still were a long way off from playing their best basketball. We were, by far, the best basketball team on the floor, but even though the competition was very weak, we still struggled with the fundamentals. Offensively, our post play in the paint was pretty shabby, even though we had a very hefty size advantage underneath. I was glad to see balanced scoring by the Falcons, as we had a few in double digits, with a few others close behind. Although most of our players got more minutes against OVU, which was good to a point, I do believe that in-game productivity should be a huge factor in individual playing time. It works! If you want more minutes, you make plays during the time you're in the game. It's disappointing to see upperclassmen, some of them starters, getting outplayed by freshmen and sophomores. It's not difficult......."You want more playing time? Earn it!" Perhaps if the underclassmen started ahead of the juniors and seniors, along with giving them more minutes, as well, it may kindle a fire underneath our older players to step up their performance. I do NOT believe in seniority in athletics. If your younger players are better than your older players, you play them! I believe our new freshmen have a lot of potential, and from what I can see, they are outperforming the veteran players, hands down. Competetition for playing time will only make a team better, whereas giving the entire team balanced minutes will do nothing to inspire players to play harder and get better. I, for one, do not agree with subbing all players in one move, as I believe it disrupts any continuity the players have achieved on the floor. The only exception would be if all players on the floor were in self-destruct mode. Our fundamentals still need lots of work, as we need to get better before the MAC schedule comes up. Just calling it like I see it. Again, congratulations Falcons, and good luck in your next game!
