MAC TOURNAMENT (3/12-15)

Post by mbenecke »

On Wednesday, March 12, our Falcons (18-12, 11-7 MAC) head to Cleveland to begin their MAC tournament journey against the #3 seed Buffalo Bulls (24-6, 13-5 MAC). We play in the last game of the day, at approximately 6:30pm on ESPN+.

With a win, we would play the winner of Toledo (22-7, 13-5 MAC) vs. Central Michigan (14-16, 9-9 MAC) on Friday at approximately 12:30pm on ESPN+.

With a win in the semifinals, we would play for a championship on Saturday at 11:00am n CBSSN.

Go Falcons!

Tough matchup. Chellia Watson is a fantastic guard and we'll have trouble stopping her. We'll need to hit threes and contain on defense to keep it close. Lost to them at home earlier in the season, 70-60.

Hanging tough despite a rough start on offense. Up 17-15 halfway through the second quarter. Buffalo’s star Watson has been cold and is only 2-8 shooting. Don’t expect that to stay the case.

Frustrating way to end the season. A few too many turnovers late and going a little cold during the last few minutes. Plus two bad calls in the last 30.

But hats off to them for another season of basketball and the effort put in by the players.

Really frustrating loss. Can’t lose when you get up 13, regardless of how good the other team is. That’s a brutal collapse and a pretty mediocre season comes to an end.

Have to figure out a way to be better next season. It’s time, Coach Chmiel.

How do have the chance to win or go to overtime and you decide to give Buffalo a chance with 20 seconds left?! Mom and I were at the game and even at 88 years old she knows that simple strategy. So much for the “All Gas, No Brakes” on the back of the shirts.

One of the worst coaching jobs I’ve ever seen in person. A slap in the face to Velasco, Fleming, and Porter. A complete joke of coaching. Fred is truly clueless.

And the fact that 2 of the 3 could’ve followed their old coach but decided to stay loyal to the school, community and fans. They didn’t like playing for him but they liked playing for our Falcons which makes me like those 2 that much more. Hopefully we can see them inside Stroh Center a few more times.

Kudos to the 3 seniors. They gave everything they had in this game and unfortunately it wasn’t enough. Buffalo rallied in the 4th quarter, we couldn’t score at critical times and we got the short end of some critical calls. It will be an interesting off season and will be difficult to replace the talent we are losing from our senior class. They certainly will be missed.

No question about it...this is a huge off season for Chmiel. If he doesn't find some talent to replace what's leaving, this team could fall off a Jen Roos style cliff next year
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
