BGSU vs EMU

Post by elmrfudd »

Falcons take one on the chin, losing to the Eagles 86-76. Falcons struggled offensively and defensively, as EMU pretty much imposed their will on the Falcons, especially beating BGSU to the basket all night long, enticing the Falcons to continually foul in the paint, while struggling to make layups themselves. Basically, BGSU had no answers for EMU’s penetration into the paint, plus the Falcon offense was stagnant as well, committing a substantial number of turnovers. I felt the Falcons were dribbling the basketball far too much, as dribbling is very easy to guard compared to quick, accurate passes. The loss snaps a seven game winning streak for the Falcons. They host Central Michigan on Jan 3rd at 2pm at the Stroh. Go Falcons!

The main thing I noticed this year is that opposing players continually zip through our defense, right to the basket, either getting fouled for an “and one”, or an uncontested layup. I believe our bigs under the basket are slow to react to penetration, thus subjected to fouling or uncontested bunnies. This must be fixed in order to expect the defense to get stops and more offensive possessions. Also, I can tell that Donahue and Ellis have really worked on their free throws, as they’ve been lights out from the charity stripe this season! Our coaching staff still needs to work on fundamentals with this team, and many players have improved, but many more needs their skill sets tweaked. Last night, they were not the same team we typically see at the Stroh, as these gals need to learn to be successful in opposing or neutral venues. Just my observation….
