Offseason 2026

Post by mbenecke »

Wanted to establish a thread to throw news into that we could keep running during the offseason, especially since it seems like it might be an eventful one for us.

After Paige Kohler entered the portal the other day, Johnea Donahue also is hitting the portal today.

Kent State lost their head coach to Arizona, where he will be associate head coach to former Buffalo HC Becky Burke.

They have promoted Fran Recchia to head coach

BG got a '26 commitment from their 3rd foreign player. 6'2" PF Aurelie Vanderstraeten from Belgium. In 2025 she played on the Belgium U18 national team averaging about 18 minutes a game. Might be a record for the longest name in BG history.

I don't count hyphenated names. That's my rules and I'm sticking to it. :D

Here's what AI says regarding NIL and foreign athletes:

Visa Restrictions: F-1 visa regulations classify most NIL activities (like social media endorsements) as "work," which is illegal without authorized employment.

Passive Income Exception: International students may receive passive income, such as licensing fees from selling merchandise or royalties, provided they are not actively promoting or performing services.

Overseas Work: NIL deals can be executed while the athlete is outside the U.S. or during international team trips, as seen with some high-profile basketball players.

Risks: Engaging in NIL activity while in the U.S. risks violating visa status, potentially leading to deportation or re-entry issues.

I ask because maybe attracting foreign players is more desirable now that NIL is so impactful. Foreign players might not leave as quickly as domestic.

If they get injured will we be able to get the parts?
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

I had high hopes for him but it's starting to look like never for him.
