I hope nobody around here or on the team thinks that we will stroll through the MAC this year. I've heard that from a few fans and I think that's some dangerous territory. I think we probably have the most talented, and probably the most experienced team in the MAC this year, but there will be some very very tough games this year.
Exhibit A: Kent State. They gave us all we wanted last year, and have historically owned us. They have Lindsay Shearer back. Shearer, at the risk of slighting Ali and Liz, is probably the best player in the MAC. She just led the flashes to an OT win over Auburn. Kent State will challenge us in the East this year.
Exhibit B: Western Michigan. They've been destroyed by injuries the last couple years, but before that they were right up there with Eastern in the West. Casey Rost is back and playing very well. They just lost to #16 Notre Dame by only 3. They will be right there w/ Eastern in the West.
Exhibit C: Eastern Michigan. Besides being my most hated team, the Eagles have Ryan "ghetto" Coleman and "Nappy" Nikky Knapp back for their senior seasons. This team has been very tough for us to beat the last few years, and they will be ready for us in the tourney this year.
The rest of the MAC is definitely a step behind BG and those 3 schools. I think you're looking at the 1-4 seeds in the tournament right there and some great semifinals and finals matchups in Cleveland. This team will need to keep improving to get to where they want to be, because I guarantee those 3 teams have improved as well. I have confidence in this team to repeat as MAC champs and possibly do a little damage in the NCAA tourney.
But it won't be easy.
