According to Kevin Eckert, that is where she indicated to the coaching staff she wanted to go.

I heard various comments about her at the golf outing yesterday. None too flattering.

I worked at a small private college in North Carolina for many years and was always amazed at the number of students that would leave in the middle of the night without officially withdrawing. As the Registrar, I hated it because they would wind up being academically suspended at the end of the semester and making it even harder to transfer to their school of choice.

The Blade confirmed today Jennings will play at John Carroll.

JENNINGS OPTS OUT:

Freshman Liana Jennings of Stow has left the BGSU women's basketball team, coach Curt Miller confirmed yesterday.

Jennings, a second-team all-Ohio guard, told Miller she wants to move closer to home and play for a smaller division program. She was granted a release from her scholarship to play at John Carroll University.

"We're certainly disappointed not to work with her," Miller said. "Her time at BG ended before it got started."

BGSU has two scholarships to offer in the upcoming recruiting period. Maribeth Giese, a post player from Cincinnati, verbally committed earlier this offseason.

This is clearly a reality of college life, but it just seems like such an incredible waste of time, energy, money and resources for the program and the player when this happens in Division I athletics.

After seeing the mens team continually gutted by this, it should be a lesson to the coaching staff to address this issue early and often in the recruiting process (not that I'm blaming them whatsoever in this case). It's difficult because it's all in the abstract until you actually get there and are on your own, but as we've seen, a program simply cannot function with a steady trickle of defections. If it was anyone other than Curt Miller and company, I'd be concerned, but knowing them I'm sure they already realize this.

On the bright side, this does give the staff more flexibility in recruiting with the extra scholarship opening up.

So unflattering comments were made because she left? That's sad! After reading a small article in the Akron Beacon Journal, it seems they contacted her and she never returned there calls, so she had an opportunity to tell the reason why she left, but chose not to. I would think if she was just home sick, she would have said that. I know for a fact the majority of the freshman that were there in the summer were all talking about leaving, looks like she was the only one with the balls to do it.

I wish her the best of luck in whatever she does from here on. It would appear she will attempt to go to Carrol to continue on.

I really don't feel any ill-feelings towards her. She didn't quit mid-season or leave the team out to dry. With that said, we're still very stacked on the WBB team.
