Lauren struggled all game for the most part. She was clearly forcing it on the offensive end. She kind of found her groove toward the end. The team as a whole struggled to find the defensive glass, but did fairly well on the other side. We could NOT hit anything in the early going, not sure about the cause of that. Our D performed well but Ball State shot extremely well and were very aggressive. "Mask" girl was an amazing shooter, I was happy she fouled out. All in all I was impressed with our performance tonight, we really showed some resilience against a good Ball St team.

Did anyone see what transpired when their coach was given a T?? I was focused on the other end of the court, and didn't see the incident. Hopefully The player was ok.....

The crowd was awesome tonight BTW. Very impressive for a Tuesday night game.

Yeah, the offensive rebounds we gave up were bad, but a good defensive performance overall. I was a little disappointed at the way we kept missing all those bunnies right around the rim. If we had made the easy ones, it would have been a blowout

Also, I believe we only missed one free throw the whole game. Amazing!!

This was a clutch win, as Ball State's RPI was actually higher than us coming in.

Go figure on that, but its true. Ball State was 55th in RPI coming into tonight and we were 57th. This win will send us up the ladder for sure, possibly into the top 50 by the end of the week (assuming we don't screw up and lose to WMU on Saturday)

I was shocked when I saw her laying down after she took that shot. Didn't even notice she was still laying there after we had taken the ball back to our side of the court and took a shot.

Here's what the BGNews sports blog had to say about it:
http://www.bgnewssports.com/

"--8:25: BSU's Audrey McDonald is down. She appeared to hit her head on the floor on that last play.
--8:25: Now for the wacky part of this situation. First off, the refs took a good five seconds to stop play and then the clock operator forgot to stop the clock. Additionally, Packard got a technical foul for arguing with the ref for not stopping play. Unbelievable.
--8:25: McDonald has been down for a couple minutes now and is getting up very very slowly and will make her way to the locker room."

that is pretty much what happened, though I missed whether or not she was pushed down or if she just tripped on her own, either way, ya hate to see a player get injured and hope it's just a bruise and nothing serious. That whole situation was ridiculous and I was rather surprised by the Technical...I wonder if that part of the game would be sent in for review (to who ever does it since I think someone said that the refs aren't really MAC refs so much as this is their region or something like that).

The BSU coach received the technical because she literally GRABBED the ref and turned him around...........that would be an automatic T because she touched him......

Also, rules stipulate that IF a player is down and the opposing team has control of the ball, play cannot be stopped........which is what happened after McDonald hit the floor. They DID blow the whistle at the earliest time possible after we shot the ball.

Finally, I would NOT agree that Lauren was "forcing" shots on the offensive end. McDonald had the task of defending Lauren the whole evening, and visa-versa. They BOTH were all OVER each other defensively. NO single guard of BSU scored in the first half, and McDonald had an 11 point average going in but scored only 3! (AND, I do believe Lauren was on the bench when that happened.) After McDonald fell to the floor and left the game - - Lauren found it a bit easier to score. KUDOS to both players for an outstanding defensive game!

To add to the above, the play was going on at the opposite end of the floor from where the player went down. I have seen play stopped if the refs feel that the player is at risk. This was not the case last night.

Thats a good point, but the Lauren I've seen in the past would have passed up all those tough looks and dished to a teammate for an easier shot. Im just saying that she seemed a little uncomfortable

If you listen to Kurt's press conf. after the game, he pretty much verified that Lauren and McDonald WERE guarding each other, and both played outstanding DEFENSIVE games, which affected BOTH their offensive stats.

I saw the whole play and I can't remember who was guarding her, but she was pushed down. It was an unfortunate turn of events, but the BG player, whoever it was, was trying to block a shot and flat out hit her which caused her to lose her balance and hit the floor.

The rules do stipulate that you cannot stop play if the opposing team is in control of the ball and if you can play it back in your head, the trail referee (the one closest to the down player) stayed in the back court as long as possible waiting for the chance to blow the whistle.

Here is what I think happened with the clock: Starting last year, the referees have new whistles which have small transmitters in them. You'll notice the referees wear these black box-type looking things on their belts. When they blow their whistle, it transmits to that, which transmits to the clock and stops it. If you watch the officials, after every time they blow their whistle, they press a button to reset the transmitter. This was done to get a more accurate stoppage of the clock. Obviously radio signals traveling at light speed is quicker than human reaction time.
Now obviously, the clock operator still has to start the clock. If an official breaths a little bit too hard, it can activate the transmitter. I think that he probably said something to the coach when she initially started yelling and it stopped the clock because of the air. As a high school referee, I have often said something said something to a coach or player while running down the floor and I don't have time to take the whistle out of my mouth. The clock operator might have seen the clock stopped and restarted it. The referee probably did not reset the transmitter on his waist, so when he blew it the next time, it could not stop the clock.

Obviously, this is all pure speculation, but it's a possible scenario.

At any rate, that's why you can look at the video and put time back on.
