Class of 61 you got me on that one. Diane was a phenom for UConn. I stand corrected, but I don't watch that much women's hoops so therefore the times I do watch, many of the teams are very lame. But once in a while a Taurasi, Achter, Mann or Swoops come along and I'm very impressed.

If Kate isn't MAC Freshman of the Year then the MAC boys must be smoking something. She knows where everyone else is supposed to be and has been a real leader on the court this year.

The junk golfer is spewing reminds me of something I heard one of the mooks on the student station say after the win over UT. This kid said that unlike the men, the women weren't really outstanding athletes. When the men play, there's usually one or two guys who are markedly better athletes but the women are pretty much all even athletically so team play and fundamentals are more important.

I guess in this kid's mind the notion that you can put a bag over their heads and they all look the same applies to hoops as well.

I'm not sure if the condescending POV is borne out of ignorance or laziness. Granted, since none of the ladies sport a 40 inch vertical leap, you're going to have to adjust your expectations of what it means to be "athletic" In my mind, the gap between what Kate can do on the court and the average MAC guard is just as wide as the gap between A guy like Turner Battle or Ben Reed and the average MAC guard.

That gap is also as wide as the one between golfer's two ears...

The only thing missing from the women's game is the dunk ...

and that doesn't really bother me. I've seen lots of great women's basketball, from HS to AAU in the summers to college. Having coached girls basketball (AAU), I can attest to the great fundamentals, and it's been my experience that women are more coachable than the guys. They listen to what you have to say and don't think they know it all. They appreciate your time and being there to teach them. I've basically enjoyed the women's game since HS and I have seen more good women's basketball than I can really list here (teams, players, coaches). I've seen tremendous shooters, rebounders, and passers. You don't have to go to a men's game to see that! Golfer, you need to get out more! Heck, turn on ESPN or ESPN2 and watch some of the finals of these women's conference tournaments. You'll see some great women's basketball. One of my biggest thrills was being at Nationals in 1995 in Dallas/Fort Worth and getting to meet Geno Auriemma (UConn Coach, for those who aren't aware). That guy can coach. I just watched him beat a tremendous Rutgers team to win the Big East Tournament ... without Diana Taurasi, for that matter. The NCAA Women's Tournament is going to be real interesting this year ... I just hope our Falcons are there. I think it stinks that only the MAC Tournament Champ will probably get in. Certainly, our Falcons are one of the 64 best teams in the country, even if they were to get upset in the MAC Tournament.
