Jennifer should be named the next head coach, and it's a big mistake if she doesn't. There will be more than just one player leave the program if she is not the next head coach. The current players want her, the alumni want her, and the people closest to the program want her hired. GC is not going to get some big name to come to BG when the salary is the 3rd or 4th highest in the MAC. How many of GC's hires have had winning seasons, by the way?

Nothing against Jennifer Roos..at all...but the desires of the current players shouldn't dictate the next hire. You'd like to see the team stay intact, but if someone wants to leave...let them leave with a pat on the back and a fond farewell.

Flip, I'd have to agree with you on this (Gad! Can't believe I said that.
The A.D.'s JOB is on the line based upon making the "proper" hires....hopefully, he'll make the best decision for BG. The fact that many of us feel "familiar" with Jen and the others really shouldn't force his decision.... (I do think she'd be a good fit, having the 11 yr. background at BG...but you just never know).

I agree in principle that the team shouldn't dictate the next hire. Yes, the AD has to make the choice they think is the best for BG. But shouldn't the team be at least consulted? They are the ones who will have to play for this coach. The wrong choice can set a program back. That is what I do not want to see. But the AD shouldn't be making this choice all by himself either. There are a lot of things/people to consider when hiring a new coach. Players, donors, fans/supporters and the University at large all will be affected by the choice. I agree that we are familiar with Jennifer Roos. Does that disqualfy her? If she is ready for the job, and I think she is, then someone should have to be head and shoulders above her to displace her. Just my opinion from a long time supporter of the program.Flipper wrote:Nothing against Jennifer Roos..at all...but the desires of the current players shouldn't dictate the next hire. I wasn't saying the team should have total say, but their opinion matters. Let them leave? Who are you going to win with? 8 or 9 players? Won't happen. The people closest to the program, who are around it, and who have actually been a member of the team want Jennifer. It's the outsiders, the general fans, the ones who have not played in the program or donated their money who say hire someone new. I am still waiting for an answer about GC's great hires.

Re: Our New Women's b-ball coach?
Why do you want to discuss GC other hires? Are you suggesting that someone else...like players, boosters...etc should decide? But, to answer your question...I think Begreron was a good hire and I think Clawson was a good hire. Orr...not so much. Other than that, I don't care.
Play with whomever wants to be here.if that's 12, 10 8 or 9 women so be it.
I don't think anyone here is actively suggesting they hire someone else. I can only speak for me. I want the AD to be sure about the decision. If it takes him two weeks to decide on Roos, so be it. If he decides it should be someone else, so be it. It's his job...his neck..his call.
Another point to consider...if they do a real, honest to goodness search and decide to hire Coach Roos, she will have far more credibility than if they simply did a coronation 15 minutes after coach Miller left.

Many times a hiring committee will include one player to have insight on who the players would like.

Curt was on Dan Dakich's radio show yesterday. Dan asked about Jen getting the BGSU job, Curt hoped so and he said if not she would be on staff with him at IU

You mean like the new football coach at UT?Flipper wrote:Another point to consider...if they do a real, honest to goodness search and decide to hire Coach Roos, she will have far more credibility than if they simply did a coronation 15 minutes after coach Miller left.

And to that point, a lot of people on here are jumping all over the AD to make a decision. Maybe he has offered the job to Roos and she is deciding what she wants to do, Head Coach here or stay as Miller's assistant at Indiana.Dukefann9er wrote:Curt was on Dan Dakich's radio show yesterday. How about we just let the process play out and then cheer/bitch after we have a new coach?

I recall the AD saying almost that exact same thing in this Blade interview (published during the final four):
http://www.toledoblade.com/BGSU/2012/03 ... -soon.html
If you read the interview he mentions getting feedback from the team and others close to the program, including Curt Miller.

Well said.
