I would prefer going back to the days of a regular season champion getting the auto bid to the tournament, but I know $$$$$ will dictate that never happens.
I hear ya...the regular season should mean much more than a week long (or less than) tournament. At least the new tourney format rewards the regular season top teams...although it didn't help us today. Sucks we lost...

Curious, why would we want EMU to win out?
Me, too. I figured CMU by about ten so BG did well to stay close.. Wouldn't you want to say you lost to the champs?

Before Gmartin starts twisting my words again, I said before the game that this would be Curt Miller's worst POSTSEASON defeat since becoming the coach here. And guess what, it was.

This game was brutal. BG played perhaps the worst defensive game I've seen them play in 7 years. Three or four times down at the end of the game the Falcons just needed one stop to get the ball back for a chance to take the lead and they couldn't do it. I don't think I've ever seen a game like that. The Chippewas got basically whatever they wanted on the inside. We weren't active on defense, weren't rebounding on either end of the court, weren't forcing turnovers, and to make matters worse, in the first half we weren't finishing at the rim either. The 2nd half was definitely better on the offensive end and Steffen and Matthews hit some big shots to keep the game alive, but BGSU didn't come with the same intensity and energy that CMU had. That to me was VERY surprising given the fact that we hadn't played in a week and CMU had to play both Wednesday and Thursday and had to be a lot more tired by the end of the game. In that respect, it was very similar to the men's game, where CMU was getting virtually all of the 50/50 balls and simply wanted it more.

It looks like everybody here is willing to let Miller and the Falcons skate by on this one, and that's fine I guess, given their overall track record. But stop pretending that we lost to a better team today, because we didn't. If CMU was so great they would've won a whole lot more games in the course of the season. They'll be a #15 or #16 seed in the NCAA tournament and be flushed right down the toilet when they get there (if they manage to win tomorrow, which they probably won't).

Unfortunately since we didn't even reach the finals, I don't think Christopher can get away with somehow putting us into the NCAA field. Host teams usually get very favorable treatment in the bracket formation.

CMU is a good team. How would BG be if Rogers was out half a season??? CMU was without a 14.2ppg player for nearly half a season. When they got back to full strength they won 7 in a row. Then two players were suspended for 2 games. How would BG be for 2 games if you take away Rogers for injuries. And then Matthews and Slagle/Steffen. Thats what CMU went through. CMU also beat Eastern by 20 points. They beat Purdue where we lost to Purdue.

True, BG had the better record. BG had the better overall year, but CMU is a better team at the moment than BG. You cannot argue with that. We lost to OU a few weeks ago. CMU beat them. CMU should be the favorite in the west for the next few years. BG in the east forever!!!

gmartin wrote:Well I guess that's the worst loss in Coach Miller's career. Well that's according to BG24. WRONG. Central is BIG, ATHLETIC AND PHYSICAL. They are much better than their record. They will the 'Best of the West' the next three or four years. I don't think the time off gift us. CMU was the better team on the floor today.

The paper yesterday said BG was going to try and host a home NIT game. I asked this before, how could BG host a home game when they are played at the same times of the NCAA 1st and 2nd rounds. The NCAA isn't going to allow us to host an NIT game when they take control of the Stroh. I asked earlier if AA is an option.

Now its time to root for EMU
During Curt's interview he mentioned something about playing a HOME NIT game on THURSDAY. Didn't hear the whole interview as something else came up that took me away from computer....but a Thursday game would certainly work IF that's the way the WNIT allows it.

After taking a quick look at the WNIT site...the first round games are listed for a date range of March 14-16.

We discussed the WNIT earlier in this thread. Scroll back a few pages if you so desire.

Yes, I know. The person above me asked the question if a Thursday date would be allowed by the WNIT. To save them the trouble of scrolling back through the thread, I posted the dates from the site.

Just to clear this up, once and for all.

BGSU COULD host a first-round game on Thursday, March 15. If the WNIT awards BG a home game in the first round, that's when it would be. There are no longer any byes in the WNIT.

If the Falcons were to win a game, there is no way BG could host a second-round game due to the NCAAs. Anderson Arena is not an option.

Should BG somehow advance beyond the second round, my spies tell me that BG would bid to host games in any subsequent round. In that case (as in every case), it would come down to where the WNIT thought more money could be made.

Speaking of money, I would bet every dollar I had that Toledo will get into the WNIT, will get a first-round home game, and will get to play at home as long as they are in the tournament. When you get crowds like they got last year during their run, they (WNIT people) are gonna want to have you back in their tournament for as long as possible.
