Crowds

Post by Schadenfreude »

I see the women had a pretty good crowd today: 1,800 or so.

The good old days are back, that's for sure.

I figured this would interest some people.

Top crowds at Anderson Arena:

1. 4,408 Florida, 3/17/93 *
2. 4,013 Toledo, 2/19/92
3. 3,779 Central Michigan, 1/18/03
4. 3,772 Creighton, 3/16/94 *
5. 3,268 Toledo, 3/5/94
6. 2,837 Miami, 2/15/03
7. 2,667 Detroit, 11/25/03
8. 2,654 Ball State, 3/4/97
9. 2,572 Toledo, 1/25/97
10. 2,520 Toledo, 1/31/98
11. 2,329 Kent, 2/14/98
12. 2,184 Eastern Michigan, 2/15/97

* NCAA tournament game.

Also, believe it or not, the Falcons *averaged* 1,547 per home game in 1993-94.

It's fun to see the Falcons are back.

BCSN has done a few games this year. Fran Voll handles the color with Dave Horger doing play by play. Fran sounds absolutely giddy when discussing the team's return to the prominence he lead them to.

The men played Michigan a few years ago, Michigan State doesn't like playing at AA.

They don't like playing here b/c the crowd was so hard on the MSU team even though MSU won that the coach swore never to return right?

Actually, BG beat 'em. But yeah, ol' Jud wasn't too happy with the crowd, although some of the "old timers" here (read: those two or more years older than me  ) have much more vivid memories of that one.

Incidentally, BG also won AT MSU the year before, I *think* beating them in their first game in a new arena.

i know this is the wrong forum, but man, it makes me weepy for these good old days of AA.
espn picked up the game nationwide as the end drew near (it was initially only a regional espn plus or full court broadcast), and i got lots of face time down the stretch as i was sitting behind the basket. it was crazy loud, and fun, and packed. the place went CRAZY after keith hit a three with like 30 seconds to go.
i got elbowed in the face by some michigan player (i think it was gavin groninger) after the game because the students were on the court way before the teams had even cleared out. tommy amaker said after that game, "They deserved to do that (students rush the floor) I thought their fans really did a fabulous job of helping their team win, no question about it." and "Very disappointing loss for our ball club and I want to congratulate BG and Dan Dakich and their program, it is certainly a difficult place to play, this is my first time here, and I hope not to return."
