Analyzing the Coaching Staff

From what I have read, the coaching staff as a whole is a huge reason for BG's success.
Can anyone offer an analysis of the staff?
For example, who is responsible for what and what is their ranking--top assistant, etc.?
How do they rank with respect to experience?
Which of them might be candidates for a head coaching position someday, either at BG or somewhere else?
Does anyone know if we can raise their salaries or do other things to show our appreciation of them and our hopes of keeping them at BG?
From what I can tell, we're in very good shape for next year considering the returnees and incoming recruits. After that?--well, it's obvious we lose a lot after next year. Recruiting next year has to be crucial. I'm just hoping we can hold on to this top notch staff.
I have the impression that there is not as much movement of coaches in women's basketball as compared to men's. Is this right?

We are always in danger of losing Miller to a bigger program/salary. Miller's biggest strength is recruiting.
Jennifer will be a great head coach someday, and she deserves that opportunity whether it's in BG or somewhere else. We would severely miss her. Our defense is the best in the MAC in large part due to her efforts.
I think it is definitely easier to keep a staff together in WCB than MCB.

coach miller is the head coach (obviously), and this is his first head coaching gig. coach roos is the assitant head coach, so she's the top assistant. her specialty is handling the defensive side of the game. she is very talented, and she will undoubtedly be a head coach someday. i'd love to see it be here at bg (if, godforbid, coach miller ever leaves). the two of them also focus on guard play. brandi is the second assistant, and i know she does a lot of scouting. she was a successful player at the university of the south. kevin was involved with the men's team at ou, and was a top assistant for buffalo before coming to bg. coaches poole and eckert also work together with the post players.
i really hope that we can keep this staff together for a long time, because they do a tremendous job in recruiting talented kids who are also great people off the floor. like j4h says, it's easier to keep together a women's staff than a men's staff, and it's something that i hope we can do at bg for a long, long time.

She is in charge of all the traveling arrangements, too, I believe. That's a tougher job than it may sound!

yeah i bet organizing teh traveling and hotel and all that other stuff can be a real thorn in the side, for lack of a better appropriate phrase. haha

Just to get their titles right, Coach Roos is the Associate head coach, 2nd in line. The others are Assistant. At BG, the associate and assistant designations are used across campus for hierarchical purposes.

i can't believe i left out that part.
when i went along with the team in 2004 to brown, she did an amazing job of making sure things were in order. she even came around to all of us for our lunch orders on gameday so that everything would be ready to eat when we got to the restaurant.

As they are at all univeristies. In terms of faculty, Associate means you are tenured, Assistant is for Un-Tenured, but on Tenure track.

I just thought that I would chime in here. There is just as much turnover in the womens programs as there are in the mens programs, as far as coaching staffs. Two things make it seem otherwise. The first thing that happpens is there isn't that much turnover in the top level programs, that is correct. But you could say the same thing about a lot of the top level mens programs. Of the coaching changes in the womens side, very few get publicized, unlike on the mens side. If Lamar University fires there mens coach, there will be something about it somewhere, but if they fire their womens coach, which seems likely right now, nobody outside of womens basketball circles will know. You might here if someone is hired, but not that often. That is the reason that people think there isn't as much turnover. I would have to predict, unfortunately, that we will lose one of our assistants in the next year or two. With the success that they've had, and the pay that BG gives their assistants, a bigger school is going to have an opening, and they are going to apply, and get the job. The pay rates are drastic as far as how much the mid level schools pay their assistants, as to the upper level. I don't know, I HOPE that I'm wrong, but that is what I am predicting.
