I have been wanting to ask this forever but didn't want to jinx the team

Does anyone know what the record is for consecutive MAC victories? Have we already eclipsed it?

Congratulations to the ladies!

BG has the longest regular season MAC win streak (but not this year's team, yet) with 23 straight in 1988-90.

CMU has the longest all-game MAC win streak with 26 (did BG tie this, or are we sitting at 25?).

Today's win (as far as I can tell) broke the MAC record for wins in a season (27) which two BG teams had done before, as well as CMU and UT.


EDIT: BG is at 25 straight MAC wins (all games), not sure what the regular season win number is, but I'd probably guess 19, still 4 shy of the Falcons of the late '80s.

At 28-2, BG is guaranteed the best record in MAC history (a couple teams, including BG at least once) finished 27-3.

We're goin way past 30 freak. EMU, WMU, and Kent all lose their best player + more while we lose 1 senior from the end of the bench and another who is a nice role player, but nothing that can't be replaced.

I see us being even better in the MAC next year, if that's even possible. The sky is the limit next year. I think our first round game is very important in the NCAA. If we can knock someone off, we'll have a good chance to be sniffing the rankings at the beginning of the year next year. I want to see this team become the highest ranked MAC team in history.

No. I don't believe in setting low expectations. The nice thing about the NCAA tourney in hoops is that our ladies have an equal shot at a NC. I don't understand the mentality of people who tell me that my prediction of Elite 8 this year is out there, but then again, when it comes to Falcon Athletics, I am the proverbial eternal optomist.

The Elite 8 would not be a stretch for the lady falcons. We haven't lost a game since January 2, we don't make stupid mistakes, we don't fold under pressure, etc. If we end up with an 11 or 12 seed (which would be a NICE screwjob) then we would not have to play a 1 or a 2 seed until the round of 16. By then, its possible that the 1 or 2 seed could go down to the 8 or the 7, making it even easier for us to advance to the round of 8 or even to the final four depending on what happens on the other side of the bracket.

Honestly, there are only 2 teams in the tournament where I say, yeah, we can't beat them. Those teams are North Carolina and Duke. If we play our best basketball during the tournament, even teams like Ohio State, Maryland, and Tennessee are beatable. One of the teams we lost to this year took out Tennessee on their home floor. Stuff like that leads me to believe that the top teams (with the exception of North Carolina) are more vulnerable than people think. Just look at Ohio State. They are a one-woman show, if Jessica Davenport doesn't have a good game, we'd beat them easily. Id love to see the matchup between Honneger and Davenport because Honneger would run around the perimeter all day, while Davenport would try to bully Liz down low. That's where we double team with Ali or Carin and make somebody else beat us.

The Falcons are a damned good team -- obviously.

I just don't know how they would respond in the tournament to a team with a giant like this:

Anyway, I'm really excited about our women. I hope they do a lot of damage. Win six.

Its true that Davenport is a beast. However, I don't buy into the theory that we can't beat a team that has a behemoth in the middle. (See explanation of how to beat OSU above)

As much as I hate to admit it, this does worry me as well. Our team isn't as big as some of the ones we'd be playing in the tournament. That said, I think we have the talent and the coaching to make up for at least some of that.
That, coupled with my endless BG optimism, tells me we've got a great chance to do very well in the tournament.

Size is the weakness of this team. We have a ton of forwards but no true center. Honegger excels in the MAC because she doesn't see 6-4 and 6-5 girls all the time. I am a little more optimistic about the tourney after watching our defensive gameplan to deny Shearer the ball yesterday. If we do go far in the tourney, Coach Jen and her defensive strategies will be a huge reason why.

defense is huge. my favorite stat from yesterday's game is that in last year's final, linday shearer scored 46 points. we only gave up 39 to the entire team yesterday.
coach roos' importance cannot be understated.

Yeah, that's quite a stat. I kept hearing about that and the fact that #12 had apparently been a HUGE factor in their previous 2 victories... I think she was scoreless until the middle of the second half.
