BG's first hoops opponent....The Buckeyes....

Buckeye women No. 1 in Big Ten coaches' poll

COLUMBUS - The Ohio State women's basketball team, coming off a 21-10 record and a trip to the NCAA tournament, was picked yesterday to finish first in the coaches' Big Ten preseason poll, beating out Michigan State and Minnesota.
In media balloting, Purdue was picked first, the Buckeyes second and Penn State No. 3.

In addition, Ohio State sophomore center Jessica Davenport, selected as the Big Ten's top freshman a year ago, was selected to both the media and coaches' preseason all-conference teams.

Davenport averaged 12.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.6 blocked shots per game last season.

The Buckeyes return four starters for the 2004-05 season, including Davenport and second team All-Big Ten selection Caity Matter. Coach Jim Foster's Buckeyes finished third in the Big Ten and made it to the second round of the NCAA tournament.

Needless to say Coach Miller and the Falcons will be up against a very good OSU team in the WNIT. But TOGETHER WE ATTACK!!!

Davenport is listed at 6'5. She will not be an easy task for our undersized post players. Our coaches will have to have some schemes ready to stop that. They also have Anthony Munoz's daughter. She and the rest of the post players are more average height.

Any secret formula out there?

That we could use to grow our post players?? :? Yikes, it figures OSU would have that kind of size anyway. We need to try to land a girl like one of these days. :|

I say put Jill in! She's like what, 6'2 or so. She may not have a lot of playing time but size wise she could match up. IMO she should be out there playing a lot more! No matter what, Davenport can't win the game by herself (this isn't the NBA) and I think our Falcons have a good shot at winning!

I think you will see alot of full front with backside help. Our starting post players are not tall, but they do have long arms and are smart. Kelly and Jill off the bench will be able to provide valuable minutes as well. I am more worried about who is going to stop Caity Matter!!

I say if you want to be the best then you have to play the best. What a great way to get us ready for MAC play than to open up the season against Ohio State. This game will be a graet learning experience for the team.
