McKinley player heading to BGSU
Canton McKinley senior Bianca Hooten has given an oral commitment to attend Bowling Green to continue her basketball and academic career.
Hooten was a Division I All-Ohio honorable mention last season. She was also first-team All-Federal League and on the Northeast Ohio Inland District's second team.
A 5-foot-10 forward, she averaged 15.4 points and 5.6 rebounds as a junior. Hooten shared MVP honors on the Bulldogs team with Porsche Poole, now a junior.
Hooten joins a Bowling Green recruiting class for 2007 that includes Stow's Liana Jennings and Wadsworth's Jen Uhl.
From today's Akron Beacon Journal.

The lady bulldogs play second fiddle to my North Canton Hoover Lady Vikings in the Federal League.

That being said, didn't we recently have another basketball star at BG who is a McK alum?

Nice find Freak!
Coach Miller and his staff are absolutely cleaning up in Northeast Ohio. That really has to irk the folks in yellow and blue.

No, but they are (at least they were when I was in HS) a basketball powerhouse.

Why is it that Kent recruits the neighborhood well (Lindsay Shearer, Jamie Rubis), we recruit it well (Kelly K., Casey, Bianca), and Akron continues to suck so badly?

McK is the state's all time winningest boys' basketball program.
Girls' sports tend not to fare as well.

Their new AD though the same thing and fired the coach this year. She went out swinging, though, claiming she had brought in the best recruiting classes Akron had seen and was not given the opportunity to see them develop. It's hard to buy that considering the famed class of Mann, Hoenneger, et. all contributed immediatly and turned the BG program around. They actually got a pretty good player out of Sylvania Northview, Niki McCoy, who I thought would have been a good fit at BG.
Their new coach came from Texas but has some Ohio ties.

freak, I am late posting as I have been busy lately- trying to stop Jim Tressel! Didn't quite get it done, but we had fun cheering.
Now, I am reading posts. This is great news re: Hooten and thanks for the info and other postings from readers on this matter. With Jennings, this gives us two super athletes coming in. Add in Wadsworth's Uhl as a bigger kid/developing talent and we are looking good. All I can say is we ought to have a lot of fans coming to BG from NE Ohio now. That is some haul out of that area. I am sure Bob Lindsey at Kent is not too happy about that development.
Keep up the good reports.
Go Falcons!

Akron got a very good coach when they hired coach Kest. I have had the pleasure of meeting her while recruiting, and she has recruited a couple of my kids. When she was at Corpus, they were without a conference, and always played a pretty good schedule every year. She was able to get them to the NIT a couple of years, and have done well. Give Akron a couple of years, and they will be a very good team with her at the helm. I will be surprised, and a little disappointed if she doesn't do well. Not that I'm rooting for Akron, but I will definitely be rooting for her. That is to be second in the MAC every year to BG!

ff1,
Yeah, we tried but couldn't stop Tressel. LOL. We had a great time anyway and the Freaklings were able to go to a game at the Shoe.
I agree...Lindsay has to be concerned over in Portage Co. Coach Miller and staff are doing a phenominal job recruiting. This will be an amazing class as well.
GO LADY FALCONS!! Three peat!
