Scouting Duke

Since I'm a fan, and can look ahead past the Bonnies, I'm focused on the big game in Cancun. This game is going to be unbelievably tough to win.

Against a schedule that includes some tough teams,

Duke is outscoring their opponents 82.4 - 44.5

Duke is outshooting their opponents .478 to .279

They have a +12.9 rebounding margin, a + 7.1 TO margin, +7.3 Steal margin, + 5 block margin, and a +10.3 Assist margin

They have a 6-7 Senior center averaging 12 and 7 a game. She's also an excellent passer so doubling her is a problem.

I want to tell myself we have a good shot to win this game, but I just don't think we can match up physically with the really elite teams out there, and Duke is definitely in that category.

I think if we play our best game, and Duke plays like Indiana played, we can make some noise. If Duke plays well, I just don't think we can beat them. I'm still psyched for the game already and it's a week and a half away. I can't even begin to fathom what a win like this would mean to the program.

It should still be a good game regardless. At least, that's what I'm hoping.

That is irritating. Two top ranked teams playing and no one will be able to watch. Even if it is just women's hoops, I'm sure there's several thousand poeple who would like to watch this game without traveling all the way to Cancun.

Not arguing against you stance, just pointing out that that is often the case when men's teams play each other in tournaments in Alaska or Hawaii or Bahamas as well. . . .

I was out recruiting today and talked to Kelly Curry, Kristy Curry's husband and one of her assistant coaches. I started talking about Bowling Green with him, and he said that if Liz is hitting the three, we could keep it close. I am very realistic on this game. We are going to need a lot of things to fall our way if we are going to beat Duke. They are a legit final four team for a reason. Anything can happen, don't get me wrong. I also talked to the Texas-Arlington assistant about the upcoming game we have with them. I did a little ribbing with her, so I hope the girls come to play in that one. UTA isn't that bad of a team. They played Texas Tech the other night, and played them pretty well from what Curry and the UTA assistant said. But Texas Tech isn't the Texas Tech of a few years ago either. They are not as athletic as they used to be. I will be very happy with a win over UTA, and a very nice showing against Duke.

On a side note, Kelly did say that Uhl is a nice player, and is going to be a nice fit for us. Just thought I'd throw that in. Another coaching friend of mine has known Coach Miller for a while, and he said that as long as he is at BG, we won't have any problems winning. That came from the head coach at Louisiana Lafayette. He is recruiting one of my kids right now. Anyways, here's to a win against St. Bonaventure, and then on to Cancun!
