off the wall question.....

Post by greg1 »

I hate to be over intrusive with my question but....when you all come to Cleveland for the tourney, do you have an "official bar" that you meet at? Just curious. I'm just now getting my March plans all set for that week and one of the obsessive compulsive things that my brother and I do is plan the when and where for each day of the week to do our bar hopping. Both of us are SICK of always seeing nothing but Ohio U. and Western Michigan fans wherever we go and it hit us like a lead weight when we were talking about it last night.....we NEVER run into BGSU fans except in the arena so we both think we're not going to the best bars. Well, obviously we're going to the worst bars if all we see are people from those 2 schools.

Last March I saw a good number of BG fans at the Boneyard, Winking Lizard, and the Harry Buffalo.

That would explain a LOT then. I like the Winking Lizard but never go there during tourney week because it seems to be where every one of my work functions is held so I've grown bored of it.......Harry Buffalo I haven't gone to downtown because I have one 75 yards from where I live and wanted to try something different and Boneyard......well, I've been in there many times during MAC but usually that's after hitting the $1.00 domestic draft happy hour at The Clevelander and am so blitzed, I'm color blind and can't tell if I'm seeing Orange, Green, Gold, Red, or Blue.

Man, I never bored with the Winking Lizard. I probably hang out there at least once a week, although I tend to keep it lively by splitting my time between Gateway, Avon, Independence and Lakewood.

"Bored" was probably the wrong adjective for me to use. It's not so much boredom....just usually looking to try places I don't go to....change of pace type deal.....and man, you just can't beat the Happy Hour prices at the Clevelander.

I actually got Tuesday the 6th off work so maybe I'll drop in there after the BGSU game (right now, I'm assuming they'll be playing in the 5pm game) and if I see any Orange and Brown, I'll have the waitress take a pitcher to the table!!

I don't know a damn thing about bars, so you'll have to help me out here, but do those particular bars allow patrons under the age of 21 to enter? If this damn tournament were a month later I wouldn't even have to worry about it, but as it stands, I'll be 20 and 11/12 that week.
I don't drink, but I was hoping I could possibly join any gathering of Falcon Faithful that might occur.
thanks.

oh man, that sucks!!! Sorry to hear about the timing issue.

hope this helps.......

Harry Buffalo is as much a restaraunt as a bar so that's your best bet. As long as you aren't sitting AT the bar, you're cool there. Boneyard is 100% bar.....the only food they serve is peanuts. lol!!! You MIGHT get carded before even entering that place but on a week night, maybe not. As long as there isn't a doorman, you can probably get in and mingle. Winking Lizard.....you might get by there because it's always so friggin crowded and it too is a restaraunt so minors are allowed to enter.

Underagers got in to Harry Buffalo last year, and several got served. I'm sure you can get in and hang out. The bartenders were as sloshed as we were and they seriously botched my check... in my favor.

Don't plan on getting into the Boneyard that week. After they caught wind of some underage drinking two years ago, they beefed up security during tourney time last year and it was like Fort Knox.

At the Winking Lizard, they MIGHT card after a certain hour during tourney week, but I can't remember.

I always remember Panini's having a crowd, but it was always a mix of tourney vs. non-tourney people.

Hope that helps. I'm going to MISS the tourney more this year than last year.

The winking lizard is awesome. I prefer the original one in Peninsula, Ohio to all others. The Lizard, however, does not allow patrons under the age of 21 after six o'clock unless accompanied by an adult. Doesn't matter if its weekday or weekend. As far as I remember, THEY ALWAYS CARD. Love the lizard though, good to hear that is an orange location during the tourney. Too bad spring tour usually falls right on the week of the tourney or I would would totally be there partying!
Yeah right girl!

Oorah!
