Coach Miller still grounded

Post by ZiggyZoomba »

This is a great article by Maureen showing what it's like to be Curt Miller and know you're not an NCAA lock despite what your fan website says. ;-)

Grant,

I just read that story. I am more impressed with Coach Miller and his staff with every passing day. I love the fact he understands what we are...a mid major that can't take anything for granted...that's true in ANY sport. It's simply who we are.

Coach Miller is THEE best. And this BG team is the best MAC team...EVER.

What? I still have to work til 5:30??? Fine. I am changing into my game gear, flying down Rt 43 into Kent and gettin' crazy tonight. Mrs. Freak might bring the Freaklings as well. Need that screech from Jake!

GO FALCONS!!!! BEAT KENT STATE!!!

Wish I could get to the M.A.C. tonight. Lay it on a little extra thick for me, Freak!

This is the exact type of attitude that seperates some coaches from many in the profession.

Never relenting, always driving for success whatever the matter-at-hand is. Leaving nothing to chance.

Not that I attend many games, but you'll notice the next time this team is up by 20 with 3 minutes to go that he is the one still urging his players to execute the play, be in position on defense, what to look for next...etc. Whoever his peer is, probably is sitting down not doing much.

I see the same things in our local Girls coach. This past saturday they were up by about 60 and he was doing all those things...it's not junk minutes for the rest of the bench...it's preparation for the depth you need to extend the season in the next few weeks.

This is a great point. I know that we on the sidelines are always pointing out to each other that even when we're up by double-digits with no sign of slowing down, Coach Miller is still coaching the same as he would if we were in a shootout.

I used to wonder why he'd look so upset all the time in games where we were clearly in the driver's seat, but then I realized that just because you're winning doesn't mean you're playing to the best of your abilities.

That's what I like most about Curt. He's always trying to get the team to play to the absolute best of their abilities. There's no room for error, even when you're at the top of your conference, because you're always going to get everyone's best shot, and when it comes time to take on the next level, all that hard work and dedication will pay off.

I have never seen coaches who scout teams and have their prepared to play more than our coaches. They know what the other team is going to do before that team does. There have been several games this year when I heard one of the coaches yell what defense to run before the opposing team even started running their play.
