Vandy's Big

Three of Vanderbuilt's top four scorers go 6-4, 6-3 and 6-1. We are going to need Amber to stay out of foul trouble. This is what got us lbeat ast year versus UCLA. I big team that pounds it down low can do some damage against us. Plus, we aren't deep enough to run bodies at them with fouls.
Lets hope this fantastic team has another great game in them on Tuesday night.

The biggest key will be staying out of foul trouble. Only having a 7 player rotation means we can't get into foul trouble. To stay out of trouble we'll need to play more on the perimeter and make some 3's. It's definitely 2 different teams and styles.

Let's just hope Vandy doesn't go to the Bill Lambier school of elbow throwing like OSU did.

Vandy didn't impress me one bit. They're big, but not athletic inside. We can't try to front them though. That's what killed DSU.

I don't think we can afford just sticking with a 7 player rotation. Breske is going to be needed somewhere down the road and I feel it will end up being in this Vandy game. We got lucky to not have any one foul out today , but we came close. Just a great job by the ladies to scratch and claw the win out.

Thank God for sports bars. I was able to watch the Vanderbilt game, and then the BG game. Vanderbilt has played some good competition, but they don't impress me that much. They do a good job of finding the open shooter, but they weren't that fast, and they didn't put a lot of pressure on the ball. They only shot 11 or 12 threes, but they made them at key times for them. I really think that if we can play the way we played on Sunday, we will win this game. I just don't see us getting that bad of officiating this time around. I just hope that we look to penetrate a little more. Too many times the ball was just passed around the perimeter, and not until there was ten seconds or less on the shot clock did we look for anything inside. We have to attack Vandy tommorrow. They aren't that fast, and I think that we could run on them when we get the rebound.

Personally, I'd prefer that we play better than we did on Sunday because I don't like the fact of being behind all game and then somehow pulling out the win in the end. Either way though, I'm just hoping that we get the Win and move ahead!! 8)

My only complaint offensively about Sunday is penetrating, and on defense, we did a very good job. There was 4-5 times that we had good post position with our hands up and they called our kids with a foul. It was incredible. I think that if we can play with poise, then we will be able to pull it out. This is March, there shouldn't be a blowout game in the second round, so I expect a close game. It doesn't do my heart any good, but I'll take it as long as it is a win.

We struggle with teams that are quick defensively and aggressively attack the ball. Delaware gave us fits, OSU gave us fits for a time because they were collapsing on the ball and we weren't hitting our shots when we rotated the ball back out.
Vandy sounds like a team we can play with.

I really think we can handle Vandy. I think you'll see us mix up our defenses a lot. We can't go straight man because they'll kill us inside and with the huge girl sliding to the basket on pick and rolls, and we can't go zone because they shoot so well from outside.
I think if we go make-miss or something similar, we can really keep them off balance. Offensively, if we shoot from the outside as often and as poorly as we did against OSU, we'll lose by 15+. We can't wait until the last 10 minutes of the game to hit shots. We'll be too far behind by then to come back.
We did not play well offensively against OSU, which was OK, because they didn't either. That's their style. Vandy is an offensive team with 1 good perimeter defender and foul-prone height inside. We can score consistently against them, and we'll need to.

Do you think Kate can use her quickness to penetrate and a.) draw fouls, b.) create shots for her teammates, and c.) score? I didn't see her play her usual game yesterday because OSU kinda clogged up the middle. I think Ali gets her 16 points no matter what. I think Kate screwing up their defense could be huge.
When we took open 3's, we made most of them. To me, the key will be patience on offense and fundamental defense.
I honestly think that if the refs call a fair game we will win.

When I saw them playing, they seemed really slow. They were big and pretty good at jamming passing routes, but nobody quick. Also, their big girl at center just looked confused at both ends of the court. Liz and Amber should both push her all around. Their biggest skill of what I saw though was shooting. They were very accurate and could shoot threes like it was nothing. It could be a pretty high scoring game!

Kate can penetrate at will as long as #20 isn't guarding her in a man-to-man scheme. That girl can D-up. Kate needs to penetrate for either mid-range J's or to dish to shooters though. If she tries to go to the basket and draw fouls, I think the 2 monsters inside will end that pretty quickly if Kate's not getting the calls, which she won't.
If Vandy zones, the J from the foul line is there for Kate all day long, and we all know she's deadly from there. If Vandy adjusts to that, the back of the zone opens up to Ali running the baseline or Carin cutting behind the stepped up defender from the wing. Their zone is very vulnerable. I hope they stay in it. If DSU had any clue how to attack it, they could have won that game. They were just running around, passing it around the perimeter, and jacking up some crazy shots near the end of the shot clock almost every possession, and they still hung with Vandy for 30 minutes.
