Wow! Those guys were worth the price of admission by themselves! Their team gave Vandy a nice run, too. The upset buzz started going around in the second half until Vandy pulled away.

Also worth the price of admission -- Vandy's dance team and OSU's cheerleaders.

OSU's cheerleaders were awesome! That one dude did a series of back flips down the entire floor and the blonde girls were both...amazing...

The DSU band was PHENOMENAL! I've never in my life seen an entire crowd beg for a band to play some more. I was really happy that the powers that be allowed them to play another number before they left.

I'm too tired to look, but if anyone can track down a DSU message board, please pass it on. I would love to congratulate both their band and their team for a great efforts.

It must have sucked to be Vandy's band. They were not only completely showed up, but they were flat-out painful to listen to. I hate to say that, but my God were they out of tune.

Deleware State's band was phenomenal. That one number that they played at the under 4 timeout of the first half was probably the best song I've ever heard by a college pep band. Their base drummer could have been the best I've heard in any band. What a job by all assembled in that group!

And yeah, the Vanderbilt band sucked. My girlfriend, who was nice enough to accompany me on the trip today, was in the band at Napoleon High School. She kept talking to me about how pathetic their trumpets and their brass instruments were, down to the way they buzzed their lips. And she was a percussionist! That's how bad they were. I found it funny whenever they played "Hey!" they do our "we're gonna beat the s**t out of you" chant. I can't believe that Vanderbilt allows their pep band to do that, how classy.

The cymbals were amazing. They did this move where they balanced one of them on their head! And their moves were pretty hot...I was impressed. Their sound quality was great especially considering how small they were.

One of OSU's female blonde cheerleaders had biceps that would make any man proud...definitely some of the largest I have seen on a woman (especially cheerleader) before.

honorable mention in the "worth the price of admission" discussion has to go to Sarah Clapper's fashion sense and wardrobe. Both last week in Cleveland and again today. I would much rather see her in a basketball uniform but she deserves props for looking amazing in street clothes.

Whitney looked good as well....but she needs to try something other than bell bottoms. Speaking of Whitney and totally off topic here....does she get to use any kind of a redshirt for this season? I can't recall if her injury happened after the season started but if it did, surely it was early enough to get a medical redshirt wasn't it?

Pretty sure I read that she'd played too many minutes to be eligible for an injury redshirt. Not sure, but that's what I've heard.

If someone from our Pep band is reading this forum - PLEASE have our Tubas polished up before Tuesday. They looked really " untaken care of " compared to the other bands there. Maybe they were busy celebrating St. Patrick's Day and didn't have the time.

The DSU band was fantastic and its great to give people an impression of that southern style playing. My only beef with them was the extreme overblowing. That's probably the Dr. Hayward in me talking, but I did really enjoy watching them play. That's the style we had in my high school marching band and no one around here understands why I can't stand corps style marching

The energy was fantastic, I just wish they could back off a hair and they would be on top. Love to see the crowd digging the band.

I too was impressed with the DSU band. They were fun to watch and listen too... As for our tubas, I'm pretty sure those things haven't been cleaned in years. Also, much of that can't be made shiny again because the finish is pitted or missing.

i will ask the tuba's tomorrow morning if they have anything to clean them up with. thanks for the tip! hopefully we can get them cleaned up. if we hve time, they dont have the tubas in their room, so the only time they see them is right before the game

i also enjoyed the DSU band. we went down at watched part of the game before ours and sat next to them. IT was awesome. they were really friendly too. i am kinda glad we arent playing them, so our band doesnt have to go up againts them.. LOL!

As a former FMB and Athletic Band sousaphonist, and current guy that sells band instruments, I'd like to inject the following re: how shiny our sousaphones are.
The interior of the sousaphone bells (the old ones) are plated with a VERY thin layer of gold over a strike coat of silver. At some point, the soft gold wears off, and the silver shows.
Also, our horns don't look as shiny as some of the others because the balance of the horn is satin silver plated, meaning that it's sandblasted in the old instrument making tradition, giving the plating a texture rather than a bright appearance.

Check out this picture of a satin silver plated tuba with a bright silver bell. Maybe you'll better understand what I mean in the above.
