BG Smokes Valpo 81-56!!!!!

I apologize for thinking a Curt Miller coached team might struggle in tonights game.
Golds got real hot from 3 land an Valpo's guards absolutely could not handle our guards on D or O. We dominated them in every facet of the game that I could see. Don't have any stats yet from bgsufalcons.com but Prochaska must've had about 3-4 blocks and maybe 4-5 steals as well. She is absolutely the real deal. Curt Miller never really emptied the bench till late in the game. Breske surprisingly didn't play tonight. It was nice and relieving to see Clapper dressed ready to play but didn't play either and obviously never had to.
I don't how good or bad Valpo is supposed to be but we totally dominated them. Again my apologies in thinking this could be close. I'm even more giddy for the rest of the season than I was before. There are still some tough tests to go in the pre-conference season, but I like where we're headed.

Miller talked up Valpo pretty good going into the game, raving about their offensive production in the scrimmages they had. Combine that with our inexperience and you had every reason to believe this might be a struggle.
I didn't think it was possible to appreciate Coach Miller and his staff any more myself, but they just keep blowing our minds with the product they put out on the court.
Great job veteran and rookie Falcons!

Since I live and work closely with Valparaiso University I was very interested in this game. Valpo lost their 3 leading scorers from last season. Those three accounted for almost 4000 points in their time at Valpo. Once they find their scorers the Crusaders will be fine. I expected BG to win this one by 10-15 so winning by 25 just blows my mind. I cannot wait to see that new banner. Pics would be nice if anyone has some.

Well after a little research, the Valpo Crusaders were picked to finish 5th in their 1st season in the Horizon League. They were 20-11 last year and the runner up in the Mid-Continent Conference, so they couldn't be too much of a slouch. Yeah, I did read about them losing alot of offense from 3 players last year, but I won't feel sorry for 'em. We lost 4 starters and 5 overall active players and we certainly seem to be a okay.

Were there any weaknesses that were seen during the game? From the messages here and the stuff on bgsufalcons.com this team sounds as good as last years team...maybe, and I emphasize MAYBE better. Any reason to think otherwise?

Weakness, well its really tough to remember any. I'm sure if I could go and watch tape like Coach Miller will be doing I guess I could probably find something to nitpick about , but straight off memory I can't think of any. The thing that stood out to me was the D, we were in their face all day long. Golds was the usual pest and Prochaska's 6'4 wingspan were causing havoc for Valpo's guards all day. Like I said in other posts she had a ton of deflections and 4 steals and 2 blocks.
I'm sure Valpo's coach will say his team gave up a bunch of To's but most of them were forced by us. Our length and size in the backcourt really made a difference. Kate had to do very little , Clapper and Breske didn't even play and we still dominated them. Up next we go on the road to Tennessee to play Lipscomb and Belmont. I think these are also very winnable games.

I enjoyed the opener with everybody else. A lot of things to like. But the poster who mentioned that sentiment about the team being as good as last year's- or better?- needs to know that we are not close to that level- yet.
The many highlights have been listed elsewhere. We will need to rebound/box better against bigger opponents, we will need to execute our offense more efficiently, etc etc.
Valpo was well coached and will get better, but tougher tests await. And in the MAC? Get ready, because every single team will be out to get us- and knows our systems etc. On theother hand, we have one of the best coaching staffs in the country and our players will be well prepared. Better prepared than any other team.
Among the things that will help this team the most is fan support especailly at home. Anderson Arena is a great venue for women. When we get loud, they play better. And, to be honest, sometimes the visitors play a lot worse when the crowd gets going. Many teams don't play in front of more than 500 people- home or away. Our young players, in particular, need our loud support- and some patience.
By the end of the year, my hope is to run right into the NCAA. It will be very tough. But we have some great returning players- and some legitimate first year players. Get out and cheer them on.

You might want to look at the write up before putting words in Keith Freeman's mouth. He was very complimentary of BG basketball and he is a very classy guy overall. Why would you even make that comment? It just makes you look like a bad winner. As much as I hope the basketball team has this much good fortune for the next century or so I hope our fans remain as classy and respectful as they were before our recent success.

I'm sure Valpo's coach was very complimentary. I meant to say that Valpo's coach will probably tell his team they had too many to's. From my side of it (to give them some credit) I think we forced most of those. I didn't mean for that statement to sound like was putting words in anyones mouth or to belittle their team. I hope they do very well in their remaining schedule and conference. That was a quality win for our young falcons.

Just a heads up, Valparaiso lost at #20 Purdue tonight, 65-62. Valpo led 35-30 at the half.

Wow, Valpo looks maybe better than I thought. Thats not a bad loss by Valpo to a ranked B10 opponent. I hope Valpo does very well in their remaining schedule , makes our win look better in the process.
