WBball wins big!

Post by Metz »

I don't know if it's the fact that our ladies are that much better or that they were playing 40-year-olds but they looked great! BG ended up scoring 99 and the last I remember the All-Stars had 51. I think they might have scored a few more though. Some things that I found interesting was that Gompers wasn't dressed. Anyone know why? Also, the new girl Whitney is a shooter and not a bad one at that. Both her and Kate seem to fit into our offense pretty well. There were some mentals errors on defense but nothing that can't be worked out soon. Go Falcons and beat the Buckeyes!!

Whit and Katie were both very impressive. Whit has a great first step and a good outside shot. I was suprised at how quick she is pushing the ball up the floor. She's got excellent lateral quickness and seems to guard the perimeter well.

Katie is going to be something. She has a real knack for knowing when to push her own shot and when to pass. I don't think I saw he r amke a bad decision wiht the basketball all night. She has great court vision. The post players are going to LOVE playing with this kid because she makes excellent entry passesoff the dribble. (Jill Lause just got a whole lot better). Defensively she plays hard. She's not at all afraid to mix it up in the paint. She must have had a half dozen rebounds.

McDowell and Lewis will give us some quality minutes at guard as well. McDowell looked a lot more confident with her shot. Lewis played her usual tough defense and contributed a little on the offesnive end as well.

Not sure why Gompers didn't dress. The freshmen are definitely going to push her for minutes.

If the freshmen play to their potential (that has to be college basketball's biggest if) this team could be a real threat come tournament time because we are stacked up front. Jill Lause looks a lot more comfortable and Thorburn, Mann and Honneger are...Thorburn, Mann and Honneger

I'll admit that I am biased being a Wooster fan and having watched Whit for four years in HS, but I wasn't surprised a bit by her play tonight, nor was I surprised with Kate. Kate does a great job of taking the ball to the hoop and either making the shot, or getting fouled in the process (sometimes making the shot AND getting the foul). Whit is very quick and will be very adept at pushing the ball up the floor on the fast breaks. I enjoyed her first play of the game where she split the defenders, made the layup, and got fouled in the process. Whit can also hit the threes. Us fans will enjoy watching Whit and Kate for the next four seasons. I was looking over our roster, and the cool thing is that eight of our thirteen kids are freshmen and sophomores. We have three seniors and two juniors. We should be loaded for years to come, especially if Curt and his staff keep recruiting like they have for the past couple years. I was really pleased with our performance tonight. The kids looked hungry to me and really got after it. Granted, it was an exhibition game against the Premier All-Stars, but that team defeated us last year on a halfcourt shot at the buzzer by Lisa Cline, 72-71. I'll take tonight's 41-point win! Hopefully the ladies can keep it going against a tough Ohio State squad on the road Friday. I think BG can play with OSU. The only spot on the floor where I see a potential matchup issue would be whoever ends up guarding Jessica Davenport in the post. She's a 6'5" sophomore who narrowly missed getting Big Ten Freshman of the Year in the Big Ten last season. She played on some All-Star teams over the summer and did pretty well. She will be a load. Other than her, though, I don't really see any mismatches in this one. Win or lose, that game, and some of these other tournaments the BG women will be playing in will do a great job of preparing our team for a competitive MAC season. I am really looking forward to this year's BG Women's Basketball Season! Everyone looked good tonight for the most part. As for Julie Gompers, I think she is injured, and I'm not sure when she will be back. Thankfully, we have four guards who can play in Tene, Casey, Whit, and Kate. If Julie is out for the season, hopefully they will get her a medical redshirt so we can have her for an additional year.

Apparently Julie Gompers has an elbow injury of some sort that kept her out of the lineup. Here's hoping it's nothing serious.

It was nice to experience the sights and sounds of Anderson Arena again, wasn't it?? :-)

I heard Julie talking after the game and she said that she will most likely need surgery and will miss most if not all of the season.

I thought we looked great last night. I knew that Whit and Kate would make the transistion from HS to college b-ball jsut fine. Sure they made a few freshmen mistakes but they will continue to get better. Ed and I sat with Whit's parents at the game last night. They are such great people, I love being around their family.

I liked the fact that we got a lead last night and never let up. That was one of the most frustrating things for me last year was gerting a lead on someone and let them come back to win the game.

I think we will a very tough team to beat in the MAC this year.

looking good

I too liked what I saw, but I wish they could get a little better test before OSU. That team was about 10x slower than any team they will see this year. Its hard to judge just on one game alone, but it looks to me like Casey and Tene looked a little more comfortable. Hopefully they will do that well under tighter D as well. 20-20 free throw shooting is a great sign and that has nothing to do with the opponent. Finally, we didn't see alot of Kelly Kapferer tonight. I don't know if I should be worried about depth at the post.(?) Jill, Kelly, Amber and Sakima are all good bench players that provide impact when they come in, but one needs to step up and be a threat from the 3rd post player position, incase Ali or Liz gets hurt or in early foul trouble.

Redshirt and get another year if that's the case! I think we will be fine depth wise at the point right now and we could definitely use Gompers another year.

Being there in my normal area felt great! I wish there were some more games before the end of November though. I missed the AA action :D

Great game for lady falcons!!!!!!

Post by Falconboy »

Nice win! :D Man , Whitney and Kate sure are good! Yeah, I don't think Julie Gompers being out is going to be hurting us it that positon at all this year. Wished more people came out though. Gosh the game was FREE!!! :? Somebody mentioned that our only mismatch will be with this Davenport girl, well at 6'5 I should say so. That really could decide the game for us , cuz we likely do not have anyone tall enough with the athletisizm needed to guard someone like her. Lause is definilty too slow even though she might a little quicker than last year. It definitly was great seeing us lambast a team with mostly ex-OhioST. players. :P But , were totally faster and quicker. One of the Premier lady's could've been old enough to be Whitney or Kate's mother! Hey, it was great meeting you McMetz811! :D Its too bad we won't see the lady's home again until Nov.30 unless we beat OSU , we could possibly get a home game in the second Rd of the this pre-season WNIT.

gompers

i talked to julie on the floor after the game, and she said her arm is still bugging her from a lifting injury that she incurred over the summer. something's seriously not right with her left arm. she had us feel her foreamr, and it feels rock hard. she said she's having "needles stuck" in her arm this week to try and remedy the situation, and that they'll likely perform surgery (nothing major, but will keep her our of action for a long while) to repair the injury in the not so distant future.
