If they would have beat ND or Iowa St I think they would be in

1%. I ain't saying it's impossible, but teams with a 71 RPI don't get at large bids.

Beating Iowa State or ND would have been nice. But I look at a few teams that are supposedly in and three teams jump out at me. Iowa State is one of those teams. Yes, they did beat us in December, but they also finished the conference season at 7-9, same thing with Texas. I just don't know how you reward teams for going under .500 in a conference. I also am looking at Georgia Tech. They went 7-7 in the ACC, with no big wins in the conference, and they also had an easy OOC schedule. I think that if you want to call BG's 27-5 weak because we didn't get a lot of quality opponents OOC to help us, look at GT's. Yes they play in a much better league, but they didn't get one win against the better teams. I know it is a long shot, but I would have our girls in well before some of these other teams. As a coach that only has freshman and sophmores, to do what BG did this year is more remarkable than their RPI and "quality" wins department.

They're not supposed to, but I wouldn't be surprised if it influences individual feelings in the room.


As far as going 7-9 in conference, do we think ISU could go 13-3 in the MAC? Considering how they dismantled us, I think that would be an automatic. Would we go 7-9 in the Big 12. Maybe. Who knows. I do know that by all objective measures, Iowa State is a better team than BG.

Who knows. This game was played in December, our young kids were still learning the game, and Kate was basically carrying us from game to game. I don't know what would happen if we were to play them right now. I watched ISU play against Oklahoma State the other night, and there wasn't a lot that impressed me.

I don't doubt that they would be a solid MAC team and probably 16-3. But the fact of the matter is that they aren't, they have a bigger recruiting budget, and have just as much of a chance as everyone else in that conference. They went under .500 in their conference, and that is what counts. If it was always about head to head, then Arizona State would have gotten in the Mens tournament yesterday and not Arizona. I am not comparing us to ASU and ISU to Arizona by any means, I am just talking about the head to head and records. If it weren't for their conference record, I would say sure, take ISU. BUT, if Georgia Tech gets in and BG doesn't, then I will have a real problem with the selection committee. Let's just see what happens.

I'm right with you HF on mediocre teams from power conferences. It just so happens that this year, I wouldn't endorse our resume over theirs. I think that to get an at-large bid, you either need to be almost flawless (16-0 in the MAC, lose in the finals), or you need to beat somebody. We did not beat a single team this year that looks better than us on paper. Our only win that could even be classified as a quality win was against Miami, and they were worse in the MAC than we were with a similar RPI.

I understand why we scheduled so soft OOC this year, and I think it was the right thing to do. Our team will be better off in the long run because of it. However, the price we pay for that choice is no margin for error in conference. The 3-game losing streak in the middle of the sched buried us. I think we may be better right now than a few teams that will get at-large bids, but we don't have the resume to back that up. Unfortunately you don't get bonus points in the eyes of the committee for over-achieving with Freshman or replacing all the star power we lost.

The committee will look at the 1-4 record vs. the RPI top 100, and easily say "next."

J4H is right, they shouldn't look at that, that would be unfar to this team, especially the freshmen, that had nothing to do with past tournament runs. The only time I want past tournament info used in the selection process is if they used past attendence figures to determine site locations

Wow! Let's hope that holds true! The question to be answered over the next hour or two is, if BG does get an at-large, who gets the more favorable seed - BG or Miami?

Even if they don't make it in, the WNIT will be fun to watch. We definately have a better chance of moving along in that tournament, and it will be great experience for our gaggle of freshmen.

Bottom line - I'm glad we will get to see Kate play at least one more game, no matter what.

In all honesty, if we can get a WNIT home game, I think I might actually be happier with that this year than a 14-15 seed in the NCAA's. Better in the long-run, as it were...
