BG loses close one 68-66.....

Post by Falconboy »

We controlled the game pretty much from the start. But we let them hang around and a wrong play set up on the 2nd to last possession for us led to a steal and a layup by OGBR player. With 6 secs left Pontius drove the length of the floor for a pretty athletic layup attempt that almost fell in. The OGBR Legends was a very athletic and experienced team. One of the players Amander Lassiter is a fomer Houston Comet. We committed the fewest TO's of all of OGBR's opponents and we forced quite a few ourselves. We've got some work to do but we'll be fine. Pontius did quite well vs OGBR's really quick guard scoring team high 18. Prochaska scored 16. In time this team will learn step on the throat when you've got a team down and not let em' back up.

Overall I thought it was a pretty good effort. Problems I saw:

1. TAKE CARE OF THE BALL- we had way too many turnovers! I realize the legends play suffocating D and we did well considering the opponent, but we had some just horrible passes.

2. TAKE GOOD SHOTS- We were settling for tough shots way too often. Just have to be patient.

3. PLAY YOUR GAME NOT THEIRS- I feel if we could have slowed the game down and played our tempo the result may have been different. Too many fast breaks that ended up blocked or missed altogether.

Sounded like a fun game to watch. I read BG had a 62-55 lead late? Ugh.

"The Legends, a team consisting of several players with WNBA experience, had four players in double digits. Erica Glover led the way with 17 points, while Courtney Coleman had a double-double, with 13 points and a game-high 10 boards."

I wondered what made up that team...We are gonna have another outstanding season! The real deal tips off Friday night at Temple!!!

I managed to get a peek at a program after the game ended and recent OSU graduate Jessica Davenport was listed on the roster. I don't believe she was there though as no player I saw for the Legends was even close to 6'5. I think we showed some great potential in this game with the Legends. We had a chance to put them away for good after controlling the game from the start but some youthful inexperience did us in at the very end. Tracy Pontius is really growing up as a PG and I would fully expect to see her be the starter more or less the rest of the season. We will see McCoy at pg at times too which gives a very nice athletic and big lineup for whenever Miller chooses. Having 2 exhibition games to get some kinks out will definitely help us. I fully expect us to rebound and kick the Temple's tail this Fri. in Philly.

Temple's a damn fine program with a really nice homecourt advantage. A top 10 team would do well to get a win there. Fully expecting us to kill them is dumb.

Maybe I was mildy over zealous in my "prediction" but with what Miller's teams have done over the years I've almost come to expect such things just like the fans of Tennesse or UConn expect their teams to dominate. Yes, I do realize we could lose too but I feel Miller will have the team ready and I feel fairly confident of falcon victory.

I think it's great that we were able to hang with a team of this caliber...I think a loss for the Legends would've been like the Generals beating the Globetrotters. Aren't the Legends supposed to be the best the country has to offer type deal?

According to Coach Miller the Legends played 2 MAC schools in exhibition earlier this season and both of those games went to overtime. He didn't say who won except he mentioned both MAC schools took them to OT. We didn't even make it to OT. :?
