I think this could work if they did it right. Just one thing I would hope they would consider is making sure the two tournaments didn't overlap at all? If that means ending the women's season a week earlier to have the tournament earlier (or mens), that would be cool. I like being able to go to cleveland for a couple days or so to see both teams. If they were during the same week I wouldn't want to travel back and forth all the time just for games.
But great idea!
What about CSU Convo?

Another alternative, it seems to me, would be to move the women's games to the CSU Convo. Center.... seating for 13K...and it would allow ALL games to be afternoons and evenings on alternating days, thus eliminating the complaints about the 48hr. turnaround for the 1st round of the men's tourney. (Of course, part of the problem is continuing to play games on SUNDAYS...if the last Sunday was dropped in favor of Sat., Teams would all have sufficient rest.)
Tues - Women - 4 games-CSU
Wed - Men - 4 games-Q
Thurs.-Women- 4 games-CSU- Quarters
Fri - Men - 4 games-Q- Quarters
Sat - Women- 2 games-Afternoon-Q- Semis
Sat.- Men- 2 games- Nite-Q- Semis
Sun- Women - Afternoon Champ Men- Nite - Champ (Both at Q)
-----------------------------------------------------------
If my calculations are off, I did this late Wed. nite. It might even work better if we used MONDAY to start tourn. to avoid anyone having to play 3 in 3 days...I think it would work.

I was wondering why the women's tournament is set up differently from the men's.
Hackjob writes this for Toledo's benefit... not the MAC.

It's an interesting idea...for purely selfish reasons, I love the Tourney in Cleveland for both the men and women since it's a 45 min drive to downtown Cleveland for me.

I support playing in Toledo, also for selfish reasons. =) It's just a short drive from my house in BG =D

From what I can tell, the only way to keep it in Cleveland would be to eliminate all of the teams playing being eligible. Not every team deserves to be in the tournament. This is supposed to be about who is going to represent the conference in postseason play, and more than likely a team that is not in the top 5 won't win the tournament anyhow. If they want to keep it in Cleveland, they need to make it an 8 team tournament. I wouldn't be opposed to both the men and women doing that. The women play the first four games on Thursday, the men on Friday. Semifinals on Saturday for both, and the championship for both on Sunday. Or you can move everything up a day if you want to finish on Saturday. Other conferences do it, and there isn't much complaining. But if you want to include all of the teams in the conference, then moving it is the best option. What exactly would be wrong with Toledo? Who else would have a brand new arena to play in? This arena isn't going to be on UT's campus is it? If other MAC coaches want to complain that it will be unfair because UT and BG draw better anyways, then they need to work more on their attendance figures. We didn't always draw that well. Winning and making the kids available in the community makes a big difference. Get over it.

If there's really an issue, then why not go back to having opening round games at campus sites?

Looked like the MAC lost out during the championship game as the floor was no longer the MAC floor as they had to change to the Cavalier floor for a game that night. Do you think playing on a different floor made a difference for the women? Does the MAC losing the marketing of the game on the screen for a nationally televised fame make a difference? Having the women play it in Toledo not only helps with practice, fans and better games times, but consistancy between games (no new floor).

Dont really think what kind of floor you play on makes a difference but I did think it was a load of crap that we all had to sit on the same side of the arena. If thats how Cleveland wants to treat us, than good riddance.

It will not happen after talking to a MAC person this week.

If they aren't going to move us, then they need to cut down the number of teams that are in the tournament. They need to cut it down to 8. The women can play on Wednesday, the Men on Thursday, semifinals on Friday and finals on Saturday. Both need to be treated equally. And no, the floor didn't make a difference. The quality of floor would be better if anything else for the Cavs.

A guy who has a radio show in Indianapolis was talking about the women's title game. Said the Cavs floor is hard as a rock and he figured most of the players probably ended up with serious knee injuries.
Didn't catch his name, though....
