I've had this thought for a long time, but now it's officially 100% correct. The college regular season in the MAC means absolutely nothing. NOTHING. We were damn near undefeated this season, and it still came down to 1:25 of the final game at the Q.

Why don't we just cancel the regular season and just play the 3 or 4 games out in Cleveland in March. Those are the only games that should be worth anybody's time or energy going forward. All of the rest of the games are just glorified exhibitions that don't mean jack s**t. 28 wins this season, and where does it get us? Nowhere, except in the NCAA record books for biggest snub in history.

Thank goodness I'm a senior, because I'm never going to another regular season MAC basketball game, men's or women's, ever again. What a waste of human effort, skill, and grace. What a waste of 5 long months of sweat and toil in practice, games, and all the hardships that naturally come along the way. What a waste of great coaching, great players making great plays, great fans cheering on the team. What a waste of the moments of greatness, such as Pontius's 3-point outburst against Buffalo, or Prochaska's 43-point hammer against Central Michigan. All of it was a WASTE. We've all had the wool pulled over our eyes all this time. All of the things I've just described was good for absolutely nothing.

If I was a player, I wouldn't be able to handle this. I literally wouldn't take the court for the NIT game. If they threatened to take my scholarship, I'd play, but I'd play as badly as possible without looking ridiculous. If I was the coach, I wouldn't accept the NIT bid in protest. We've been played by the system far worse than anything this university has ever seen, and its rendered our regular season, once and for all, totally meaningless. There can be no debate on that anymore.

And so, for robbing our regular season of any sort of meaning, F**K YOU NCAA.

You really need to put the cap back on the airplane glue.

Geeze, I think you're preaching to the choir. Why not just play an independent schedule for the 25 games and then MAC member schools will use that schedule to seed for the tournament by wins and losses.

Same result.

Go ask the players and coaches if this season was meaningless. They'll beat the living s**t out of you, and be right in doing so. Show a little respect for the work they've put it.

You see, this is exactly why I made sure to realize that we were probably WNIT bound, and there wasn't a problem with posting it on here before. I knew this was going to happen. I knew that those posting that it wasn't ok to talk about the WNIT before the selection were going to be pissed and take it overboard. I'm just glad that Coach Miller and the team understands that this is the life of being in a lower rated conference. The team knows that it was a great season, better than even they probably expected. They also know that they still have a chance to play in the postseason. Whether people agree with conference tournaments or not, they are are going to happen. Hell, why should we have 64 teams in the field if we want to reward just the regular season. Why not crown UConn the champ right now, or take the winners of the top 16 rated conferences and play the tournament with them. The only reason anyone is complaining is because we are part of a one bid league, and we had a great year without reward. But we aren't the first team this has happened to, and we won't be the last. UWGB had the same situation with 27 wins last year, and they didn't get in because they lost in their conference tournament. It happens.

As a coach, you are trying to get your team to win every game. Throughout the year you want your team to get better. The thing I don't like about most of these tournaments now is the fact that they include every team. If you play in a conference that only allows the top 8 or 10 depending on how many teams are in the conference, every conference game means something. And if you are a coach of those teams, you are playing for a chance to get into the tournament and see what happens. Sometimes it takes a while for your team to gel, but when they do, anything is possible. I look at UCF, they finished the season 17-16, finished 5th in the conference regular season, and then went on to win the tournament. BUT, they started the year 2-9 I believe. Conference tournaments do mean something. Or should we just allow conference tournaments for the leagues that you know are going to get more than one bid?

I didn't get a chance to watch the selection show. Were we in the discussion at least?

Or, perhaps it would be wise for the MAC to do away with the conference tournaments. As much as I enjoy watching the tournaments, the conference comes away with the team that was the best over 3 or 4 DAYS, not 3 or 4 MONTHS, getting into the dance.

Since we've been a one-bid league, for both men's and women's, why not make sure that our best team gets into the NCAA Tournament? And yes, I know this topic had its own thread a few days ago...

In fairness, BSU was just a hair behind us in the MAC this year and was close in the RPI as well. We aren't talking about Buffalo winning the tourney with seven wins.

Honestly, I wouldn't know what to tell the players during the meet and greet following our 1st WNIT game. I'd probably say something along the lines of "you all deserve better," and leave it at that. They deserve better than having their great year flushed down the toilet by a biased committee in Indianapolis.

I hate the conference tournament. That being said, because BG was in the top 29, I was watching Texas. I think they finished about 20-11 or something close, hoever they were 2-6 in their last 8 games!

Yeah, a team on the rise, I''m sure.
