KU-ISU WNIT Semi-final

Well, I was in Lawrence, KS last night and went to the WNIT semi-final between KU and Illinois State, and was rather impressed by both teams. KU had the lead for much of the game, at one point getting up to a 15 point lead, but ISU kept clawing their way back into it, eventually climbing to just a one point deficit with about 3 seconds left.

I hate to say it, but BG would've had a very tough time against ISU. Basketball analyst I am not, but they were a very good team. They weren't the fastest team in the world, but they were quite persistent in their attack against a tough KU squad.

For the record, last night's game had the highest attendance of any Women's BBall game in KU history; somewhere in the neighborhood of 8,300. That was my first visit to Allan Field House, and even at just half capacity, it can get quite loud when they want to. I now know I have to make it there for at least one Men's game before I get out of here.

The game against ISU would have been tough, but I would have loved to see it. I've said it on here before, Illinois State University needs to be a member of the MAC. Once they get their football team from DI Championship to DI Bowl they would be a perfect fit. I believe they averaged just under 14,000 per game last season in a stadium that seats 15,000. I also know they are planning an expansion to take their stadium up to 20,000 in the near future. Academically many MAC schools benchmark against ISU and they would be a great in state rival for Norther Illinois. And adding a school like ISU makes a hell of a lot more sense than adding Temple for football only... Hopefully a new commissioner will bring an end to that and some sanity back to the MAC.

The only problem is that, in basketball, Missouri Valley Conference>Mid-American Conference. If the MAC tries to get them in b-ball, I think it's unlikely they would want to take a step down

But if the MAC were to try and get Ill State in football, the MAC > Gateway Conf. That would be a step up.

I'm with Journey....ISU would be a very solid addition to the MAC>

Hold the phone there, the MVC was a 1-bid conference this year. They've had some good years lately, but over the long run they haven't had much more staying power than the MAC.

Just an FYI, it's no longer the Gateway conference, it's just the Missouri Valley Conference now.
