Golf Outing Success!!

Thank you to all who participated in the annual womens basketball golf fan/fundraiser, either by playing, donating or coming to the evening social on Sunday September 20th! We had 23 teams of 5 playing (115 golfers) and many others who came for the social only. If that wasn't a record, it was very close. The weather was perfect all day. This was a day to meet the freshmen, get reaquainted with the upperclassmen and coaches in a very casual atmosphere, and just have fun!
The day started with 17 sleepy players spreading out on the course before our 8am shotgun start time to man several different posts. We had a car to be won on #2 with a hole in one, a couple skill holes, but the favorite hole was the par 3 over the quarry. Golfers were helped out by Kate Achter, Curt Miller or Jennifer Roos the first time around (if you don't know it, BG Country Club is a 9 hole course so you play it twice). They hit a shot for each team, and if they hit a better shot than anyone on the team, their ball could be used. The second time around, golfers had the chance to take one stroke off their score by making a successful toss onto a set of custom cornhole boards made by Kate Achter. This board set was made to look like the BGSU basketball court! Very cool.......and then they were auctioned off at the end of the outing!
But, the hotspot for the day was definately the hot dog shed! With the grill fired up by 8:30, it was party central on the course! When the players didn't have a duty, they congregated there, mingled with golfers as they came for dogs and drinks, and entertained their fans with various cheerleading poses! (I know there's pictures somewhere!)
After golfing was over, everyone gathered in the clubhouse for dinner and the last chance to make silent auction bids, buy raffle tickets for some really great prizes, and buy 50/50 tickets. Curt introduced the team and said a few words and many thanks. It was just a fantastic day!
While no one won the car, Brianna Owens shot a hole in one on #7 on the 2nd time around and won a set of golf clubs! Don't quote me, but I think that was our first hole in one ever in this outing!!
A big shout-out to BG Country Club, CC President -Mike Campbell, CC Pro -Tom Garcia and Rick Wilson (for the car!), to the committee who helped put this together, and to everyone who played, donated or otherwise contributed to this great event! And, Thanks to the coaches and players for giving us a reason to have such fun!
