I hate to be the party pooper here, but Youngstown State coming into today was winless, and their RPI was 337, making them just about the worst team in all of women's college basketball. Going into today, our RPI was 48th in the nation. My guess is that it'll be in the high 60s or 70s tomorrow.

Bottom line, we can't afford to be playing games against teams like YSU,especially on the road. If you're going to play teams from the 300s in RPI, for the love of peregrine make them come to AA. These are the types of games that kept us out of the NCAA tournament a year ago when we didn't beat Ball State in the MAC Championship game.

Oh well, minor rant over. Sucks that a 28-point win can seem so...dire, given the way the deck of cards in women's college basketball is stacked against mid-majors like BG.

I guess 11 am starts do affect something. Looking at the final stats, BG was an uncharacteristic 8-14 from the charity stripe (57.1%). Prochaska didn't make it to the free throw line at all today.
The next lowest free throw mark was 12-19 (63%) when we played St. Francis at home. Everything else is the the 70% and above range.

Go Falcons! Beat Appalachian State! Together we attack!

They did last season, this was the back end of a home-and-home

Yes, I'm pretty sure when this series was scheduled three years ago we had no idea YSU would be winless.

As I suspected, according to realtimerpi.com, BG falls all the way from 48th to 76th in the RPI.

We fell from 108th to 201st in the SOS. 93 spots. Let me repeat that, 93!!

Which confirms what I thought yesterday, not playing this game at all would've been better than playing and winning by 28. This drop in RPI/SOS is roughly equivalent to the jump we had after beating Vanderbilt.

I'm sure Curt Miller would love for you to make all the phone calls and put together the perfect schedule for him.

I don't see what the big deal is. Maybe things like RPI is fun to follow for some, but it means nothing. This team has a tougher schedule than most seasons for reasons other than RPIs and rankings and whatever other polls that don't matter.

You want to play quality teams to test yourself, and while YSU is not a strong team, we have played very good teams, and have won and lost against them this season. The goal is to win the MAC tourney and get to the NCAA tournament. If we happen to have good rankings, it dosn't matter. If we happen to have bad rankings, it also dosn't matter. We were ranked 25th last season, then later didn't make the NCAA tournament because Ball State won the MAC tourney.

So reading between lines here, you're saying that the regular season is a total waste of time because no matter how good our rankings are, we won't be going to the NCAA tournament if we don't win the MAC tournament. So the MAC tournament is all that matters. It doesn't matter if we're 29-0 or 0-29 in the regular season, if we win the three games in Cleveland, we're in, and if we don't, we're out.

This simple premise, if what you're saying is indeed true (and it pretty much is after our royal screwjob last year), is what's wrong with women's college basketball. In the small conferences, the season might as well be a 29-game exhibition. To some extent the same thing happens on the men's side, but it's not nearly as pronounced. No way would a 28-4 team get left out of the men's tourney. The selection committee would be up to their ears in hate mail and vengeance from the side that was left out.

Then why are you? YSU was the next game on the schedule...and a road game at that. BG did what it was supposed to do and rolled them. Can't we just enjoy the wins no matter if it's Vandy or YSU? Freakin eh...

BG took care of Appalachian State 89-68 at AA.

Attendance was 1,533...very nice crowd! Falcons are now 9-3 and will take off the next few days and play at Hartford on Dec 30.

That is a nice crowd especially considering it was 2 days before Christmas. It's nice to have a win-streak going into the small break they have. Great job ladies! Take down Hartford!
