A Falcon fan sees the Lady Flayshes run out on the Banner and doesn't like it.

I know that the men's squad was not on the floor for the anthem under Coach Dakich. Not sure if the other teams were or not. I do remember when Coach Orr came in that he wanted to do the anthem like they did in the Big East with the teams across the court at the foul lines, then after the anthem the teams would shake hands.
My gripe about the national anthem is the people that are trying to do their own rendition. Just sing the song. Don't try to go Whitney Houston on it (Sandy Patty sings it better). Just sing it. If you can't sing it right, then we have a band that can play it instead.
Let me hear Abby Paskivan, the HeeBee BG's, or the Men's Chorus sing the anthem.

I was at the BG/Kent women's game and remember that the BG players really had to hustle to line up before the anthem started. It seemed like they didn't really give the team on the floor any warning, they just announced the anthem and started to play it. I do have to say, it did create a negative impression on me that the Kent team was not on the floor.
Good for them for making a change. And good for the BG fan for following through on something he felt so strongly about.

I've just e-mailed Kent State's athletic department to request that they change their school colors to orange and brown because that's what I view as respectful. And then I e-mailed the rest of the MAC schools too. But I'm not a rabble rouser either.

I have never liked it when schools play the national anthem 10-15 minutes before game time. It's like it's a bother, let's stick it here and get it out of the way, even more so when the team can't be bothered to attend. I like it right where BG puts it, just before the players are introduced, when most of the fans are in their seats. It's a proper beginning to the festivities.

See, I think this could go one step further...do it AFTER player introductions. Intro the players, sing the National Anthem and then tip the ball. I think that would be gravy.

National Anthem 15 minutes before tip-off is a product of the media (TV and radio). They want it out of the way so they can do their pregame at the top the show without the 2 minute song interuption.

The men playing Valparaiso today makes this appropriate. VU does just what Rollo83 suggests. They do a player introduction with the lights out in the arena. Having the National Anthem performed right after that allows the lights time to come up to full strength in time for tip off. I say screw the media and put it where it belongs. They are guests in our building, not the other way around!
