Rutgers coach said they are either going to play in the NCAA or nothing. She pretty much slaps the NIT in the face. I am sorry but I never have cared for this coach. About time Don Imus says another 'nice' remark about her. Personally I think she made this comment to put it in the heads of the selection committee. I am sorry but if a 18-15 Rutgers team makes it over Toledo, BG or Marist then there is something seriously wrong with the selection committee.

Charlie Creme is generally real accurate when it comes to predicting the field, BUT I AM SORRY, NO WAY SHOULD a 15-13 RUTGERS team be in the tournament!!!

And they say that there is no more East Coast bias. This Rutgers team is not very good at all. I think their record pretty much proves this. Unfortunately, the powers that be know that a Big East team will probably outdraw a Mid-Major from Bowling Green, Kentu....er, Ohio. You'd think that Curt and the women have earned some respect for dominating year in and year out but it hasn't happened and it's a load of crap.

Their doing this discussion on the MACbbs board about Kent getting a mens at large bid.

Can we just resign ourselves now to the fact that there will not be an at-large team in the NCAA's from the men or women and just move along?

It's not worth the time to even worry about.

Like I have said over and over again, women's NCAA basketball tournament selection is about the most corrupt and ridiculous thing in all of sports. Last season we got snubbed when a 13-loss Georgia team made the field over us at 28-4. BG set an NCAA record for most wins in a season to NOT make the NCAA field. And more than likely, "insert great mid-major team here" will get royally screwed over when this terrible Rutgers team makes the field at 16-14.

There is little doubt in my mind that the big schools have a two-pronged lock on women's college basketball. They never give at large bids to the mid-majors, even when they go nearly undefeated, and whenever mid-majors get good, there's collusion between the big schools to never, ever, ever play against the good mid-majors, driving their strength of schedule ratings into the 100's and 200's, thus "invalidating" their success because of poor SOS.

Thus, we are left with a landscape in which the last 29 games BG has played has been essentially a glorified exhibition. 17-12, 23-6, 7-22, 27-2, 13-16, or 0-29, it makes no difference what our record is. All these wins and regular season titles thus fall almost completely by the wayside without a chance for that one shining moment in tournament play. Maybe with a win over Ohio State, the committee would have no choice but to put us in the field, but it's just so unfair how BG and other schools with similar profile have been blackballed by the powers that be.

Conclusive evidence that women's basketball selection is totally and completely corrupt and stupid: Tennessee loses 11 games last season and gets in, and gets a NUMBER FIVE SEED!!! The team that knocked BG out in the MAC Tournament Final, Ball State, which would've been left out of the field despite a phenomenal year had they lost, got screwed with a #12 seed.

Final Score: Ball State 71, Tennessee 55

Suck it NCAA

It's no different for the men or women...the mid majors will always get screwed. The BCS conf always get what they want. With all the success BG has had over the last decade, one would think we've proven ourselves but every year it's the same ole song.

With that said, the Rutgers coach can stick it where the sun doesn't shine. They have NO BUSINESS being in the BiG Dance this year. None. Quit yer bitchin...and if ya don't wanna accept an NIT bid, stay home and maybe we can get another mid major, and more deserving team, in.

Did you read the link you provided?

Stringer bluntly said that Rutgers (15-13, 7-7 Big East) is a longshot to make the NCAA tournament, noting only a little mercy from the selection committee or a big run in the conference tournament might change things.

Sounds like Stringer agrees with you. so where's the problem? The only issue I would have is that she's telling her women that she doesn't want them to have the opportunity to play more games if they don't win the NCAA bid. Motivation to help them win out maybe? Who knows. The lady has had pretty good success and never once says Rutgers deserves to be in the NCAA.

Did you read this whole thread?? Stringer is selfish for not wanting to accept an NIT bid. As in they won't step down to that level. That is the selfish part. And Charlie Creme has Rutgers in the NCAA field. That is just flat our wrong. No way should Rutgers be in the field. Yet Creme has them ass one of the last four teams dancing.

Not sure I see it as selfish. Or anymore selfish than anyone else. Everything we do is based on self-interest- she is advocating for her team. Good for her. I'm guessing that the decision about her coaching in tne NIT will be made at another level.

As for the NCAA Stringer clearly doesn't think they belong-no different really than ND's refusal to play in lesseer bowl games years ago.
