Congrats BG on Hosting 2012 NCAA Tournament
Probably old news to readers of this board, but I just became aware that BG will host a first round of the NCAA tournament in 2012. That's great news for the MAC. I've got my calendar marked for March 17-20, 2012. My only regret is that the games won't be played in AA, but maybe the new joint will win me over.

I don't think it's old news at all. Looks like the NCAA just released it today ...

Re: Congrats BG on Hosting 2012 NCAA Tournament
This is an absolutely incredible positive for our University, our athletic dept, the local community and our women's basketball program. What a recruiting tool in so many ways for BG as a whole and the team. Not sure when the last time a MAC school hosted an NCAA tournament set of games, but this is BIG. The NCAA no doubt saw BG and the Stroh Center as a perfect place to put on a real "tournament" atmosphere. Why have 3000 people in a 12000 seat arena? The teams involved and the local community fans will sell the Stroh out.
Now if BG is in the group- oh my!
Great job by the BGSU ath dept crew. This is the AD and the SWA in action and I would say this is a pure home run.
Or a real long three pointer with a second on the shot clock.
Or something like that.
Go Falcons!

Great job by the Falcon athletic director- the guy has done some great things and you all are lucky to have him. Pretty nice honor and a great way to get your new building some visibility.

This is amazing news!
Re: Congrats BG on Hosting 2012 NCAA Tournament
I was pleasantly surprised by this news.
I wasn't aware that the NCAA would put any round of the women's tournament in a facility that holds less than 5,000 seats? Secondly, I thought the NCAA had some pretty stringent rules about hotel acomodations that needed to be in place for fans and the teams?
I've worked at every NCAA men's and women's basketball tournament here in Cleveland since 1999. We had always heard that Cleveland was bypassed by the NCAA in prior years because we didn't have the hotel beds to support the event.
I am sure they are counting the hotels in Perrysburg and others within a 30 minute drive of Bowling Green.
I can only tell you these are fantastic sporting events to attend and I would recommend going to these games if you get the chance.

Not enough hotel beds in CLEVELAND?
Wasn't Cleveland the host of the Women's Final Four a couple of years back?
They will host the 2010 Women's Gymnastics Championships in 2011 (April 15-17 in the Wolstein Center)

I know the AD is on the women's Bball committee (most every AD is on one sport), so my guess is that it wasn't big of a stretch to host. My guess is that we probably have to guarantee a certain amount of money to the NCAA, hopefully we'll make enough to cover it. I don't really follow women's bball so forgive me if this is a dumb question. Could we play at home if we were to make it in 2012?
Re: Congrats BG on Hosting 2012 NCAA Tournament
AWESOME! This is great for exposure and just for the town in general. It's the perfect size arena for Women's first round games so it should be a really great event. Great news!

Yes, and we will play at home if we make the tournament that year, no matter our seed. The NCAA does that for the women's tournament so that the attendence numbers are betterDrago wrote:Could we play at home if we were to make it in 2012?

Re: Congrats BG on Hosting 2012 NCAA Tournament
I saw this story show up in my Facebook feed last night and couldn't believe it, what a coup by our athletic department. Credit due to those involved in the bid process and of course to our program (coaches, managers, assistants, practice players, former players and fans) who helped continue the growth to get us to this point.
I had it in my mind that we would potentially go for hosting a 1st/2nd round weekend but I always envisioned it at the new downtown Toledo arena.
Again WOW, this is HUGE!

Don't start this controversy all over again by saying our new arena is the perfect size. You know it's too small and/or big.drumstix2388 wrote:AWESOME! I would think it would be more feasible to open up the Stroh for this size of event than have it in an oversized arena (seriously). Regardless of game they will be able to open all concessions, restrooms, etc. with a resonable hope that the area (HS girls teams, etc.) will support such an event regardless of teams with no less than a half capacity crowd.
