Despite our loss to Kent.....

..... we are still holding our own in the college insider mid major poll and coaches poll. AP poll has and always will be a joke as it is just a bunch of media and writers. The coaches are the true voters. A new coaches poll comes out later tomorrow and I expect BG to come in slotted around 30th. However since our game against Kent our RPI has improved. With us losing to Kent it actually made our conference RPI slightly better. And then with our win against CMU, our RPI on Sunday, according to Realtime RPI, which is more accurate than college RPI, and they are more accurate in selecting at large bids, our RPI was 34. Second highest it has been all year. A win over Toledo should even increase our RPI.

I see our only remaining tough games are at EMU and Miami as well as home against the Rockettes and Flashes. We should be able to win our home games and EMU will feel like a home game so I see our only challenge being at Miami. Even so I think we will win that.

However with our RPI high and on the doorsteps of the top 25 I think we could slip up one more time and still get an at large bid. Granted I would prefer to win out but if not I don't think all hope is lost.

I think it's pretty clear at this point, 3 strikes and out. We had 3 defeats during the regular season in 2009, then lost in the MAC tournament and got shafted by the committee at 28-4. Since our RPI and SOS look pretty similar to where they were at this time 2 years ago, I'd say the same rule applies here. IF we win out our final 10 games, I think we're in, especially since we'll only have one truly bad loss (Evansville) on the ledger.

The 2007 sweet sixteen team did drop 3 games in the season, but 2 of them were to ranked teams (1 of them to #1 ranked Duke) so had they lost in the MAC tournament the rule wouldn't have necessarily applied, they were pretty much a lock because of the tough schedule they played.

All of this will fail to matter if we don't BEAT TOLEDO on Wednesday. BEAT TOLEDO!!!

Our SOS last year end of season was 187, and our RPI was low 50's. Also the total conference RPI was ranked #15. We are slightly in better position this year but only slightly that is why I feel we can get by with one more conference road loss. Now a home loss or even a road loss to say Northern or Western would ruin our chances but we are in better position than last year because our RPI is 20 slots higher, our SOS is 50 higher and the conference is ranked higher. Plus I actually think the mid major poll, if we stay ranked in the top 3, will definitely help as usually 3 or 4 mid majors got at large bids and you would think that poll would have some influence but you never know.

BG moves up to #27 in the coaches poll. Moves up 6 spots. Two more wins this week and we will be ranked in the Top 25

well there goes the ranking, can't even beat Toledo in our own house, and as well as a NCAA berth

There goes the NCAA berth?

How?

This was not a MAC tournament game. This was a regular season game. Other than PRIDE and for conference seeding purposes, this game meant absolutely nothing towards an NCAA berth. There is only one way to get an NCAA berth (no matter what the rest of these Internet gurus tell you) and that is to win the MAC tourney. The schedule on BGSUFalcons.com says the tourney is in March, not last night.
