Stroh Center thoughts....

Well, I attended the Women's Exhibition game last night and since nobody else mentioned it, I thought I would.

1. The sound system problems have been fixed.
2. The PA announcer is horrible.
3. The doofus running the scoreboard didn't put up the stats on the game until midway through the second half. Never mind that a Findlay player fouled out and was not replaced until after the free throw.
4. The Google ad on the sideline board has a white background that glares across the court.
5. The new death dogs are huge.

Findlay looks to have lost another player to injury during the game. Wow, I hope they don't feel this place is jinxed.

Agree that the PA announcer is terrible. When a player received a foul, sometimes he wouldn't mention how many fouls that player had. I didn't even notice a Findlay player fouled out because I was never aware of how many fouls each player had. I also believe he missed several sub-ins. While I'm very happy he didn't try to eat the microphone or scream into it, the whole game felt so quiet due to his lack of commentary.

But, the sound quality of the PA system, especially when broadcasting music, is much improved.

I think we need to give the PA kid a break. It was the first time he announced a BGSU basketball game and, for all we know, the first time he's done it at all. I'm more than willing to give him a few games to get his feet wet & gain a little more confidence.

Not sure why the stats weren't on the board in the first half, but it was nice to have them there in the second half. Hopefully they worked out the bugs & are now good to go.

I agree 100% that it was a big mistake on someone's part (the official scorer, I'm guessing) that the free throw was shot before the UF player with 5 fouls was taken out of the game. Someone needs to be a little quicker on that one. Even if you're not positive that the foul was on #12 (or whoever it was) and/or that she has 5 fouls, hit the horn & get the refs over there to straighten everything out.

Overall, I thought it was a great night. That's only the second time I've been in the building (Michigan State volleyball game was the first time), so I can't speak to the sound system. It was an enjoyable night, and that Purdue game should be an unbelieveable atmosphere on the 17th.

Yes that would be the official scorer's responsibility. As a HS referee, that's something I stress to scorers if they are doing it for the first time or look uneasy - if you're unsure, ask. Better to hold the game up a minute or two than have a bigger problem down the road.

It's not the same PA kid from the Falcon Madness, who happens to be a high school friend of mine. Though I'm probably biased, I think he does a good job conveying enthusiasm, even if he yells into the mic sometimes  As for the game announcer, maybe we were just spoiled by the announcer from the previous years, and maybe I just miss "St st st Steffan!!" 8-)

But I really DO like to keep track of how many fouls the players have. I was sitting in the student section behind the scoreboard, so maybe when I move over to my season ticket seat I can track it better.

The announcer will be different the remainder of the season. The announcer for both men's and women's basketball will be the same this year.

As to the announcer from Falcon Madness, yelling into the microphone does not convey enthusiasm. Sometimes high volume hurts people ears and then they don't make any noise at all. Let's just find the happy medium and support the Falcon men's & women's basketball teams.

I know that complaining seems to be the thing to do, but is it really necessary to refer to someone as a doofus? The people working at the scorers table are going to have a learning curve...by the second half, the stats were up.
