BG v. Evansville

BG wins 71-54. Execution looked much better today than the first two games. We're still missing some easy shots, but it looks like the offense is finally starting to fall into place, with fewer sloppy passes and turnovers. BG is continuing to push on the fast-break, and it's starting to pay off, with some easy layups and even a few threes as a result. Defensive pressure continues to be good as well, and I believe Evansville had 20 turnovers or more. I attribute many of those turnovers to our ladies getting their hands in the passing lanes and playing relentless D.
Chrissy Steffan stepped it up today. Just as Lauren used to do, when Chrissy's threes don't fall, she drives to the basket instead and connects there. We're going to need her veteran leadership down the stretch, and she came through in the second half to hold off Evansville. Right behind her in scoring was Noelle Yoder. She had what was probably a career game, coming off the bench to score in double figures, including two three's.
It also seems to me that Jillian Halfhill is getting more comfortable at the point. She had some great passes that led to easy buckets (especially a nifty pass as she was falling to the floor, to Danielle for an easy two). But again Alexis sat out quite a bit due to foul trouble (anyone know why she went into the lockerroom at the half as #32, and came back as #33?

).
I continue to be impressed with Jasmine Matthews. With Evansville making a run in the second half, she took control and connected on a 3, and later a nice layup. She has a really quick release and can get the shot off with a defender in her face. She is also relentless and quick on defense. What a good find for BG! She's going to shine in this program.
Overall, a good win for BG, even if some people consider Evansville an "easy" team. We're finally executing on offense, and more players are stepping up when BG needs a big play. Still a lot of work to do, but nice game, ladies!

My guess is that she had blood on her jersey.

She split her lip in the first half.

I am really loving Jasmine Mathews...she is agressive on both the offensive and defensive ends of the court. I can't wait to watch her game develop.

It was a total joy watching Jasmine play today. Jessica continues to be her usual energized animated self on the bench or on the floor. I've also noticed the defense knocking more balls out of the opponents' hands these days. They looked so much more like a team today than two weeks ago.

Not to distract from the teams abilities, but I have a question for the people running the show.
Is turning out the lights and shining the spotlights on the visiting team starting line up a new courtesy we show our opponents or merely yet another opportunity for fans to be in awe of the new professionalism and communication skills of all those people standing around with radio headsets, as we are similarly in awe when the announcer's microphone crackles before and after the sound goes thin? Perhaps a call to Terminex is in order to get rid of those bugs in the system.
I also have a question for whoever is in charge of the parking lot.
Could some of the parking money go to fill in the numerous pot holes?

My thoughts exactly Sue. We ripped off 25 wins in a row after losing the first 2 that year.
TOGETHER WE ATTACK!

Clearly there are still some bugs in the new arena. The opponents lineup was started before the color guard left the court, so everything was off a step. The scoreboard still has some bugs in it, notice the possession arrow was missing, and the stats were absent. The sound system is acting weird, and the prerecorded stuff is choppy at best.
Maybe by the 3rd CBE day they'll have the bugs worked out.

We have been in the arena over FOUR months now........couldn't we work some of this stuff out BEFORE events start?
This administration is very reactive rather than proactive, with the exception of keeping all the terrorists out that are carrying key chains and candy bars into the arena!

That was
MY fault yesterday. I was ready for some basketball and forgot to allow the color guard time to exit the court before beginning the starting line-ups. Look no further for who to blame on that one.

I come to this forum to discuss the BGSU women's BB team, not read a lot of complaints about the lights, the parking lot, etc. If anyone has a problem with such things, can you please address it to someone who can do something about it and keep it out of this forum. I know I would appreciate it.

I have to agree with you on this....complaints about Potholes? Unless you're not being permitted to park in the main arena lot, which is brand new AND in excellent condition... or did BG get hit with a quick freeze and thaw that suddenly opened great chasms?
Guys, give the new place a chance to get rolling with REAL live events on a regular basis and see how things hopefully begin to smooth out. Wish I'd been able to make the last FB game but came down with pneumonia, a "not fun' experience...Doc today said to anticipate feeling "better" by Wed., until yesterday, I've felt like a truck hit me. Looking forward to seeing some hoops this year after another 3 wks of recovery time.

The main lot at the Stroh is NOT new. They simply coated it and relined it. There are a number of potholes starting to form.

(Pot Holes) must be from all the Electric Vehicles and Pool Cars running around in Parking Lot
