Shafir out for season

Zach Silka of the Blade is reporting that Toledo's Naama Shafir is out for the season with an ACL injury. I'm certainly no fan of the Rockets, but you never want to see something like this happen. In addition to being a great player, Shafir seems like a great kid.

Accurate- don't know if she would be eligible or willing to return for another year. The team clearly missed her in Arkansas-dominated the stats-lost the game. We have some players, but on those nights where its not coming together we have no one who has shown they can take the team on their back like she can. and Yes, she is one of the nicest, most genuine folks you'll ever meet.

That is too bad...even though we are rivals, you never want to see anyone get hurt.

She's one hell of a player...don't like seeing anyone get hurt. Best of luck to her in her recovery.

That sucks....it was fun watching her lock horns with Tracy Pontius and Tamika Nurse. She's a really smart, gritty player and I truly hope this doesn't spell the end of her career...

Too bad. She was probably my favorite UT athlete of all-time.

......so that makes her about 99,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999 on your list of all athletes? ;)

It's always sad to see a worthy opponent go down, especially at the height of her game.

I knew that someday Dustin would post something I could get behind 100%...I just knew it... :-)

Shafir was awarded a medical redshirt today and will return next year. Good for her. As much as I dislike Toledo I did not want Shafir going out ending her playing career from an injury. Would much rather her go out losing to BG in a championship game. Lol. Best of luck on her continued recovery.

She should get another year...it's how the medical redshirt idea should work. Good for her...

Freak, you are correct that since she didn't play this year that she should be awarded a redshirt, however we all have seen decisions the NCAA have made leaving us scratching our heads. Also, she will already have her degree, May 2012, so unless she enrolls for grad school I am not sure how that works. If she is planning on playing pro in Israel I doubt she would enroll in grad school.

The Toledo Blade is reporting today that Naama will redshirt and return for a next year. She is eligible because she played in less than 20% of her team's games.

While as a BG fan I can't exactly smile about this news, I'm very happy for Naama that she'll get another chance. She's a fun player to watch and brings a high level of competition to the MAC, and no one should have their senior season end to an injury like this. Glad to hear she'll be back.

Sweet! We have another chance or two to complete a whole game without her inbounding a pass off one of our players' rumps.
